To the Editor: Elmariah et al longitudinally assessed burnout among internal medicine residents after the “2011 duty hour changes.” The authors used an abbreviated 5-item version of the Maslach Burnout Inventory to assess burnout, relying on a 5-point scale (from 1 = Disagree strongly to 5 = Agree strongly). In order to estimate burnout’s prevalence, the authors opted for a cutoff score of 3, c...

[1] Elevation data acquired from radar interferometry at C‐band from SRTM are used in data fusion techniques to estimate regional scale forest height and aboveground live biomass (AGLB) over the state of Maine. Two fusion techniques have been developed to perform post‐processing and parameter estimations from four data sets: 1 arc sec National Elevation Data (NED), SRTM derived elevation (30 m)...

Although biogeochemical models designed to simulate carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) dynamics in high-latitude ecosystems incorporate extracellular parameters, molecular and biochemical adaptations of microorganisms to freezing remain unclear. This knowledge gap hampers estimations of the C balance and ecosystem feedback in high-latitude regions. To analyze microbial metabolism at subzero temperatur...

Monthly and yearly gross primary productivity (GPP) estimates derived from an empirical and two process based models (3PG and BIOMASS) were compared. Spatial and temporal variation in foliar gas photosynthesis was examined and used to develop GPP prediction models for fertilized nine-year-old loblolly pine (Pinus taeda) stands located in the North Carolina Sandhills. Foliar gas exchange in both...

More precise estimation of the greedy algorithm complexity for a special case of the set cover problem is given in this paper. Introduction The greedy heuristic is the most used for optimization problems. The general approach is as follows: repeatedly, a procedure that minimizes (maximizes) the local increase of the objective function is applied. In some cases the greedy strategy guarantees the...

Principal curves are smooth curves that minimize the average squared orthogonal distance to each point in a data set. Fitting a principal curve is a maximum-likelihood technique for nonlinear regression in the presence of Gaussian noise on both x and y. We choose two definitions of principal curves in the literature and then present experimental results to discuss over them.
