The expression of common acute lymphoblastic leukemia antigen (CALLA) on a human neuroblastoma cell line, SJ-N-CG, was demonstrated by indirect membrane immunofluorescence, complement-dependent cytotoxicity, and quantitative absorption, using two monoclonal antibodies (J-5 and BA-3) directed against CALLA. Immunoprecipitation of solubilized 125I-labeled membrane proteins from SJ-N-CG cells with...
This paper presents the results of LILY, which is an ontology mapping system, for OAEI 2007 campaign. To accurately describe what the real meaning of an entity in the original ontology is, LILY extracts a semantic subgraph for each entity. Then it exploits both linguistic and structural information in semantic subgraphs to generate initial alignments. If necessary, using these initial results a...
It is well known that a tip-focused intracellular Ca2+ gradient and the meshwork of short actin filaments at the tip region are necessary for pollen tube growth. However, little is known about the connections between the two factors. Here, a novel Ca2+-dependent actin-binding protein with molecular mass of 41 kD from lily (Lilium davidii) pollen (LdABP41) was isolated and purified with DNase I ...
The accumulation of phytic acid during development of lily (Lilium longiflorum Thunb.) pollen and its degradation during germination have been studied. A substantial amount of phytic acid accumulates in lily pollen by 5 days before anthesis, and little change occurs during subsequent maturation. Mature lily pollen contains 7 to 8 micrograms phytic acid per milligram pollen. Considerable degrada...
We used Southern blot analysis to investigate the T cell receptor and immunoglobulin (Ig) genes in tumor DNA derived from 13 patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Rearrangement of both alleles of the T cell receptor beta chain gene was demonstrated in the three individuals with T cell ALL, while the Ig genes remained in germline configuration. In contrast, in nine of ten patients wi...
Analyses of bone marrow blast cells collected at diagnosis and relapse from 68 children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) demonstrated changes in the expression of cell markers in one-fourth of the patients. Loss of the common ALL antigen (CALLA) was a frequent change, occurring in 8 of the 51 cases initially classified as common or pre-B ALL. The HLA-DR antigen was either acquired or los...
Cell surface antigens, such as CR3, Fc gamma RIII, cALLa and Leu 8 antigen, expressed on polymorphonuclear cells (PMN) in the peripheral blood (PB) are associated with certain functions of PMN. Functional alterations of PMN have been reported in some rheumatic diseases. In this study, therefore, the cell surface antigens were examined by 2-color flow-cytometry using monoclonal antibodies to cla...
Lily pollen was developed to express HBsAg by Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. A double prime-boost strategy combining parenteral and oral HBsAg boosters was found to increase antibody titer levels 10-fold, as compared to a single process of priming and boosting. Lily pollen may prove a tool for oral vaccine development.
MicroRNAs, as master regulators of gene expression, have been widely identified and play crucial roles in plant-pathogen interactions. A fatal pathogen, Botrytis elliptica, causes the serious folia disease of lily, which reduces production because of the high susceptibility of most cultivated species. However, the miRNAs related to Botrytis infection of lily, and the miRNA-mediated gene regulat...
An in vitro B cell colony assay system was used to evaluate B cell growth from peripheral blood precursors in common acute lymphoblastic leukemia (CALL) patients in remission during maintenance therapy and in normal controls. Major differences between the two groups were found in the phenotypic and morphologic features of pooled colony cells. In both cases, the cells were E-. Controls' cells we...
