In this paper, we present a novel approach on road sign segmentation under bad lighting condition employing a modified fuzzy c-means clustering. Most of the cases accidents occur in bad weather or when the road signs cannot be recognized. The proposed system implements a system that segments the road sign using fuzzy c-means clustering. At first, the image is detected in RGB colour space and th...

In this paper, a novel edge detection method is proposed which can be used to find main edges of objects meanwhile filter edges within texture regions. We first introduce three kinds of edge models and three kinds of non-edge models to represents all the possible condition in the edge detection process. Then, pixel’s window intensity regularity (WIR) is defined which denotes the texture similar...

This paper describes a new method of extraction and clustering of edges in images. The proposed method results a graph of detected edges instead of a binary mask of the edge pixels. The developed algorithm contains a sequential pixel-level scan, and a much smaller second and third pass on the results to determine the connectivities. It is therefore significantly faster than Canny edge detector,...

This paper presents a lifting wavelet based edge detection algorithm for NaXi Pictographs, effectively reducing noises while improving the precision, which makes up the drawbacks of traditional edge detection. It is proved by emulation that compared with Laplace operator, Sobel operator, Canny operator, and multi-scale wavelet edge detection algorithm, this algorithm has better detection effect.

In this paper, the image is decomposed into two parts which are the smooth components (cartoon) and the oscillatory components (texture) using a linear model which reduces to a low-pass /high-pass filter .The paper also involves the one of the applications of decomposed image i.e., edge detection, background detection and pixel value observation . The edge detection of images using canny mask an...

We consider the problem of the automatic inspection of industrial metal pieces. The purpose of the work presented in this paper is to derive a method for defect detection. For the first time in this context we adapt level set method to distinguish hollow regions in the metal pieces from the grinded surface. We compare this method with Canny edge enhancement and with a thresholding method based ...

In this paper we introduce a new method for image segmentation. It is based on a height map generated from the input image. The height map characterizes the image content in such a way that the application of the watershed concept provides a proper segmentation of the image. The height map enables the watershed method to provide better segmentation results on difficult images, e.g., images of n...

The canny edge detection technique is a multi-stage algorithm which is an optimal edge detection technique. But it removes noise in an image using Gaussian filter to become insensitive to noise. The Gaussian filter smoothes even the edges in the images so that the through put is decreased. That is some of the true edges may be missed and false edges may appear in the edge detection. We propose ...

This paper presents digital video filters labs for final year engineering students. The project deals with the implementation of Canny Deriche optimal edge detectors on a FPGA plateform. The target of these labs is to illustrate the design of integrated electronic systems and to introduce the concept of architecture/algorithm adequacy.

Bit-plane slicing is a method which divides the image into many binary image planes and categorizes the image data into most significant and least significant information. In this paper a new edge detector using the most significant image data to detect the edges in the bacterial images is developed. This proposed method finds the edges in the higher order bit-planes using contouring technique ...
