Bi-clustering is a promising conceptual clustering approach. Within categorical data, it provides a collection of (possibly overlapping) bi-clusters, i.e., linked clusters for both objects and attribute-value pairs. We propose a generic framework for bi-clustering which enables to compute a bi-partition from collections of local patterns which capture locally strong associations between objects...

This paper describes a theoretical framework for inducing knowledge from incomplete data sets. The general framework can be used with any formalism based on a lattice structure. It is illustrated within two formalisms: the attribute-value formalism and Sowa’s conceptual graphs. The induction engine is based on a non-supervised algorithm called default clustering which uses the concept of stereo...

Previous studies suggested that heuristics sometimes obstructed solving particular insight problems (e.g. Knoblich, 1999). Abe & Nakagawa (2008) took up the Cheater Detection Model (CDM: Cosmides, 1989) as an adaptive heuristic within social environment, and suggested that it has a negative influence on the ‘missing dollar’ riddle. In this study, we examined the same type of insight problem fro...

In Minds, Brains, and Law, Michael Pardo and Dennis Patterson argue that current attempts to use neuroscience to inform the theory and practice of law founder because they are built on confused conceptual foundations. Proponents of neurolaw attribute to the brain or to its parts psychological properties that belong only to people; this mistake vitiates many of the claims they make. Once neurola...

Neurophysiology reveals the properties of individual mirror neurons in the macaque while brain imaging reveals the presence of 'mirror systems' (not individual neurons) in the human. Current conceptual models attribute high level functions such as action understanding, imitation, and language to mirror neurons. However, only the first of these three functions is well-developed in monkeys. We th...

Learning Content Management System (LCMS) supports e-learning applications with storage and efficient access for e-Learning Objects (LOs). In order to foster LCMS adoption by the e-learning community, an important issue is to bring course modelling to the realm of the LCMS. In this paper, we describe the Repository of Objects with Semantic Access (ROSA) project. ROSA is a LCMS that provides use...

This paper presents a detailed integration process for XML schemata called BInXS. BInXS adopts a global-as-view integration approach that builds a global schema from a set of heterogeneous XML schemata related to a same application domain. This bottom-up approach maps all element and attribute definitions in XML schemata to correspondent concepts at the global schema, allowing access to all dat...

This paper focuses on the problem of clustering sets of objects. An extension of the traditional attribute-value formalism is proposed, which conforms to well-known database modeling techniques. The mechanism described allows clustering over one-to-many relationships, i.e. objects may be represented with a variable number of components. Several experiments are provided to evaluate the algorithm.
