Two classical results of Stafford say that every (left) ideal of the n-th Weyl algebra An can be generated by two elements, and every holonomic An-module is cyclic, i.e. generated by one element. We modify Stafford’s original proofs to make the algorithmic computation of these generators possible.

The only groups for which all indecomposable modules are ‘knowable’ are those with cyclic, dihedral, semidihedral, and quaternion Sylow p-subgroups. The structure of the Green ring for groups with cyclic and V4 Sylow p-subgroups are known, but no others have been determined. Of the remaining groups, the dihedral 2-groups have the simplest module category but yet the tensor products of any two i...

The paper is devoted to the study of some important types of minimal artinian linear groups. The authors prove that in such classes of groups as hypercentral groups (so also, nilpotent and abelian groups) and FC-groups, minimal artinian linear groups have precisely the same structure as the corresponding irreducible linear groups. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification. 20E36, 20F28. Let F be ...

Using Gröbner Basis, we introduce a general algorithm to determine the additive structure of a module, when we know about it using indirect information about its structure. We apply the algorithm to determine the additive structure of indecomposable modules over ZCp, where Cp is the cyclic group of order a prime number p, and the p−pullback {Z→ Zp ← Z} of Z⊕Z.

Schwinger terms of current algebra can be identified with nontrivial cyclic cocycles of a Fredholm module. We discuss its temperature dependence. Similar anomalies may occur also in spin systems. In simple examples already an operator–valued cocycle shows up. Lectures given at the XXX–th Karpacz Winter School in Theoretical Physics, Poland, 1994.

The reduced Burau representation Vn of the braid group Bn is obtained from the action of Bn on the homology of an infinite cyclic cover of the n-punctured disc. In this paper, we calculate H∗(Bn;Vn) as a module over the Laurent polynomial ring Q[t, t−1].

Let E be a cyclic extension of pth-power degree of a field F of characteristic p. For all m, s ∈ N, we determine KmE/pKmE as a (Z/pZ)[Gal(E/F )]-module. We also provide examples of extensions for which all of the possible nonzero summands in the decomposition are indeed nonzero.

In the mid-1960s Borevič and Faddeev initiated the study of the Galois module structure of groups of pth-power classes of cyclic extensions K/F of pth-power degree. They determined the structure of these modules in the case when F is a local field. In this paper we determine these Galois modules for all base fields F .

Let p be a prime and suppose that K/F is a cyclic extension of degree p with group G. Let J be the FpG-module K/K of pth-power classes. In our previous paper we established precise conditions for J to contain an indecomposable direct summand of dimension not a power of p. At most one such summand exists, and its dimension must be p +1 for some 0 ≤ i < n. We show that for all primes p and all 0 ...

The alpha-determinant unifies and interpolates the notion of the determinant and permanent. We determine the irreducible decomposition of the cyclic module of gl n (C) defined by the alphadeterminant. The degeneracy of the irreducible decomposition is determined by the content polynomial of a given partition.
