An effective and facile method for the synthesis of 2,2-di-substituted perhydrofuro[2,3-b]pyran (and furan) derivatives is described. The cyclization of 1,2-cyclopropanated sugars with olefins in the presence of BiCl3 is highly diastereoselective. 2,2-Di-substituted cyclization products were obtained in good to excellent yields.

We describe here a new metal-free route for the synthesis of 3-nitroindoles by the nitrative cyclization of N-aryl imines with tert-butyl nitrite. The radical transformation allows the assembly of the indole framework through oxidative cleavage of multi C-H bonds, a nitration, cyclization and isomerization cascade.

A new protocol for Ru-catalyzed decarboxylative cyclization of mandelic acids with acrylates was established, which allows efficient construction of the phthalide skeleton. Interestingly, this reaction underwent a decarboxylative process, in which only divinylation was observed, and the subsequent cyclization led to the formation of phthalides.
