A Au particle-on-wire system that can be used as a specific, sensitive, and multiplex DNA sensor is developed. A pattern formed by multiple Au nanowire sensors provides positional address and identification for each sensor. By using this system, multiplex sensing of target DNAs was possible in a quantitative manner with a detection limit of 10 pM. Target DNAs from reference bacteria and clinica...

Single-walled carbon nanohorns have been used to construct an aptasensor for the first time. This novel aptasensor was successfully used for the detection of thrombin with high sensitivity and excellent selectivity. This thrombin aptasensor has a detection limit of as low as 100 pM.

Here we propose a platform for the detection of unlabeled human α-thrombin down to the picomolar range in a fluorescence-based aptamer assay. In this concept, thrombin is captured between two different thrombin binding aptamers, TBA1 (15mer) and TBA2 (29mer), each labeled with a specific fluorescent dye. One aptamer is attached to the surface, the second one is in solution and recognizes surfac...

This work reports on the implementation of different absorption micro-filters based on a dye-doped hybrid organic-inorganic xerogel polymeric material synthesized by the sol-gel process. Microstructures containing eight different filter widths were fabricated in polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), bonded to glass substrates and filled with the corresponding dye doped polymeric material by a soft litho...

We develop a ligation-mediated polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for real-time detection of small biological molecules in a high-throughput format. This method is extremely sensitive with a detection limit of as low as 18.8 fM for ATP and 17.3 fM for NAD(+), and it can discriminate target molecules from their analogues as well.

Sensing using surface plasmon resonances is one of the most promising practical applications of plasmonic nanostructures and Fano resonances allow achieving a lower detection limit thanks to their narrow spectral features. However, a narrow spectral width of the subradiant mode in a plasmonic system, as observed in the weak coupling regime, is in general associated with a low modulation of the ...

Described herein is a unique and inexpensive method that outperforms commercial methods that amplify the streptavidin-biotin recognition event. Amplification induced by streptavidin and biotinylated protein causes the formation of a large detectable polymer. This approach enjoys a 100-fold decrease in detection limit in comparison with the commercial methods.

Radiative heat transfer in Ångström- and nanometre-sized gaps is of great interest because of both its technological importance and open questions regarding the physics of energy transfer in this regime. Here we report studies of radiative heat transfer in few Å to 5 nm gap sizes, performed under ultrahigh vacuum conditions between a Au-coated probe featuring embedded nanoscale thermocouples an...

BACKGROUND Conceptionally, antibody microarrays are simply multiplexed sandwich immunoassays in a miniaturized format. However, from the amounts of capture antibodies used, it is not apparent whether such assays are ambient analyte (Ekins. Clin Chem 1998;44:2015-30) or mass-sensing devices (Silzel et al. Clin Chem 1998;44:2036-43). We evaluated multiplexed microarray sandwich assays for 24 mous...

A novel multiplex PCR method was developed for simultaneous event-specific detection of four events of GM maize, i.e., DAS-59122-7, MIR604, MON88017, and MON863. The single laboratory examination of analytical performance using simulated DNA mixtures containing GM DNA at various concentrations in non-GM DNA suggested that the limits of detection (LOD) of the multiplex PCR method were 0.16% for ...
