Seven cases of single ventricle, six cases of hypoplasia of the right heart (tricuspid atresia), and one case of hypoplasia of the left heart were investigated with reflected ultrasound. In hypoplasia of the right heart there was abnormal anterior movement of the mitral valve; in hypoplasia of the left heart, abnormal anterior movement of the tricuspid valve, and in single ventricle, similiar m...

7. Clinical bottom line TV insufficiency should be treated during left-sided valve surgery when TR annulus is dilated (G21 mmym ;)70 mm 2 intra-operatively; G3.5 cm at trans-thoracic echocardio-graphy (TTE) w18x) regardless of the absolute grade of regurgitation, in cases of preoperative AF, trans-tricuspid PMK lead and underlying rheumatic disease. Also, 'ring' annuloplasty techniques should b...

Sixteen patients aged between one day to 18 years with Ebstein's malformation of the tricuspid valve were studied with ultrasound. The findings were compared with a group of 74 patients without Ebstein's malformation. Two features were considered specific for Ebstein's malformation: 1) ability to record the anterior tricuspid leaflet (ATL) farther to the left of the left sternal border than in ...

Resection of the tricuspid valve without prosthetic replacement has successfully been performed in patients with tricuspid valvular endocarditis. Using M-mode, two-dimensional, and Doppler echocardiograms, we studied four patients who underwent tricuspid valvectomy. All patients had previous history of intravenous drug abuse and staphylococcal endocarditis with tricuspid valvular involvement. I...

Two-dimensional echocardiograms and angiocardiograms were obtained in six infants and children, each with complete transposition of the great arteries, a ventricular septal defect and subvalvular pulmonary stenosis. In each case, the subpulmonary stenosis resulted from redundant tricuspid valve tissue which protruded through the ventricular septal defect and into the left ventricular outflow tr...

We describe the case of a 76-year-old woman, diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumor of the cecum in 2004, with liver metastases and carcinoid syndrome since September 2010. The patient had been treated intermittently with chemotherapy cycles, and remained symptomatic, with worsening secondary lesions. In June 2011 she began to present signs and symptoms of right heart failure and was hospitalize...

Background The ratio of the transmitral early inflow velocity (E wave) and the tissue Doppler mitral annular velocity (e’ wave) can be used to measure left atrial pressure on the echocardiographic examination. An elevated E/e’ (>15) on echo Doppler is an established measure of elevated LAP. Unlike echo, cardiac MRI (CMR) has no non-invasive measure of LAP. Normally both the atrioventricular val...

A case of infective endocarditis of the tricuspid valve is described in a young female patient with no history of intravenous drug abuse. The patient suffered from symptoms of septic emboli of the lung and right heart failure. She was ultimately treated by tricuspid valve replacement. There was no recurrence of symptoms following surgery.

I read with interest the article by Sung and colleagues about tricuspid valve replacement [1]. I agree with the authors that their reported results, although better than others, are still unsatisfactory. I think tricuspid valve replacement is an unfavourable surgery rather than catastrophic. The most important question in these operations is when to replace and not to repair the tricuspid valve...
