This paper presents the prediction of fatigue life and crack propagation in the railway wheel due to the stress field caused by mechanical loads and press fitting process of a railway wheel. A 3-D nonlinear stress analysis model has been applied to estimate stress fields of the railway wheel in press fitting process. Finite element analysis model is presented applying the elastic–plastic fin...

We use the phase-field crystal model to study nucleation of edge dislocations in two dimensions under an applied stress field. A dislocation dipole nucleates stress, consistent with Burgers vector conservation. The phase field correctly accounts for elastic energy storage prior and dissipative relaxation during event. show that a lattice incompatibility is sensitive diagnostic location event sl...

Several probes have been constructed to measure fluctuation-induced Maxwell and Reynolds stresses in the edge of the Madison Symmetric Torus reversed field pinch (RFP). The magnetic probe is composed of six magnetic pickup coil triplets. The triplets are separated spatially, which allows for local measurements of the Maxwell stress. To measure the plasma flow components for evaluation of the Re...

GeSi nanoislands grown on nanotip pre-patterned Si substrates at various temperatures are investigated. Nanoislands with a high density and narrow size distribution can be obtained within an intermediate temperature range, and the Ge atom diffusion length is comparable to half of the average distance of the Si nanotips. The Ge concentration distributions at the center and edge of the GeSi nanoi...

A biomechanical growth model for the proliferation stage of cutaneous wound healing is developed emphasizing the emergence of stress and wrinkled skin during the healing process. The healing is assumed to be primarily driven by growth at the wound edge (i.e. the interface between the wound and the skin) leading to incompatible growth strains. A closed form solution of the boundary value problem...

Determination of the local interlaminar stress distribution in a laminate with a bolt-filled hole is helpful for optimal bolted joint design, due to the three-dimensional (3D) nature of the stress field near the bolt hole. A new interlaminar stress distribution phenomenon induced by the bolt-head and clamp-up load, which occurs in a filled-hole composite laminate, is investigated. In order to e...

this deals with the harmonic forced vibration of a circular plate surface bonded by two piezoelectric layers, based on the kirchhoff plate model. the form of electric potential field in the piezoelectric layer is assumed such that the maxwell static electricity equation is satisfied. the differential equations of motion are solved analytically for clamped edge boundary condition of the plate. t...

Edge detection is an important task in the field of image processing with broad applications in image and vision analysis. In this paper, we present a new intelligent computational mechanism using nonlinear diffusion equations for edge detection. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms standard edge detectors as well as other methods that deploy inhibition of texture.

We have studied the finite-size effect on the dynamic behavior of graphene resonators and their applications in atomic mass detection using a continuum elastic model such as modified plate theory. In particular, we developed a model based on von Karman plate theory with including the edge stress, which arises from the imbalance between the coordination numbers of bulk atoms and edge atoms of gr...
