We propose a one-way invisible cloak using transformation optics of parity-time (PT) symmetric optical materials. At the spontaneous PT-symmetry breaking point, light is scattered only for incidence along one direction since the phase-matching condition is unidirectionally satisfied, making the cloak one-way invisible. Moreover, optical scattering from the one-way cloak can be further engineere...

In the past decade, invisible cloaks have experienced rapid research development in the metamaterial community driven by their revolutionary practical potentials. Among them, magnetic cloaks, which are able to conceal metallic or magnetic objects from electromagnetic induction detection, have attracted a great amount of attention. However, applications of these reported devices are limited by t...

By investigating wave properties at cloak boundaries, invisibility cloaks with arbitrary shape constructed by general coordinate transformations are confirmed to be perfectly invisible to the external incident wave. The differences between line transformed cloaks and point transformed cloaks are discussed. The fields in the cloak medium are found analytically to be related to the fields in the ...

Guiding surface electromagnetic waves around disorder without disturbing the wave amplitude or phase is in great demand for modern photonic and plasmonic devices, but is fundamentally difficult to realize because light momentum must be conserved in a scattering event. A partial realization has been achieved by exploiting topological electromagnetic surface states, but this approach is limited t...

2 The ability of rendering objects invisible using a cloak – not detectable by an external observer – for concealing objects has been a tantalizing goal 1-6. Here, we demonstrate a cloak operating in the optical regime. The cloak operates at a wide bandwidth and conceals a deformation on a flat reflecting surface, under which an object can be hidden. The device is composed of nanometer size sil...

Cache-based side-channel attacks are a serious problem in multi-tenant environments, for example, modern cloud data centers. We address this problem with Cloak, a new technique that uses hardware transactional memory to prevent adversarial observation of cache misses on sensitive code and data. We show that Cloak provides strong protection against all known cache-based side-channel attacks with...

We introduce new design method for 3D isotropic transformation optics device using smart transformation optics. In 2 dimension smart transformation optics, elastic deformation satisfied quasi-conformal transformation with negative Poisson’s ratio -1. We extended smart transformation optics to 3 dimension and demonstrated 3D isotropic metamaterials waveguide. This 3D waveguide is arbitrary benda...

An invisibility cloak has been designed, realized and characterized. The cloak hides free-standing sub-wavelength three-dimensional objects at the short wavelength edge of the visible spectrum. By a bottom-up approach the cloak was self-assembled around the object. Such fabrication approach constitutes a further important step towards real world applications of cloaking; leaving the realm of cu...

Grating cloaks are a variation of dielectric carpet (or ground-plane) cloaks. The latter were introduced by Li and Pendry. In contrast to the numerical work involved in the quasi-conformal carpet cloak, the refractive-index profile of a conformal grating cloak follows a closed and exact analytical form. We have previously mentioned that finite-size conformal grating cloaks may exhibit better cl...

We present a semiclassical description of non-magnetic cloaking. The semiclassical result is confirmed by numerical simulations of a gaussian beam scattering from the cloak. Further analysis reveals that certain beams penetrate the non-magnetic cloak thereby degrading the performance.
