It has been shown that fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET)-based PCR, including the TaqMan assay and molecular beacons, has potential for rapid detection of pathogens. In these promising real-time detection assays a single internal oligonucleotide probe labeled on both the 5' (reporter) and 3' (quencher) ends is used for selective generation of fluorescence. In this paper, we describe...

the padmakar-ivan (pi) index is a first-generation topological index (ti) based on sums overall edges between numbers of edges closer to one endpoint and numbers of edges closer to theother endpoint. edges at equal distances from the two endpoints are ignored. an analogousdefinition is valid for the wiener index w, with the difference that sums are replaced byproducts. a few other tis are discu...

In a world where organisations are embracing new IT working models such as Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) and remote working, the traditional mindset of defending network perimeter is no longer sufficient. Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) has recently emerged security model in which breach dominates threat model. By default, ZTA considers any endpoint (i.e., device), user, or application to be untru...

Validation of methods for microbial detection in foods or other matrices involves determining microbe recoveries. Recoveries are expressed qualitatively as presence-absence data, which are obtained from quantitative spiking experiments. Replicate samples of foods are spiked with the microbe of interest, generally at several concentration levels. Usually three different levels are used. However,...

A recent trend in data-mining is to find communities in a graph. Generally speaking, a community in a graph is a vertex set such that the number of edges contained entirely inside the set is “significantly more than expected.” These communities are then used to describe families of proteins in protein-protein interaction networks, among other applications. Community detection is known to be NP-...

We demo an online system that tracks the availability of over four-hundred public SPARQL endpoints and makes up-to-date results available to the public. Our demo currently focuses on how often an endpoint is online/offline, but we plan to extend the system to collect metrics about available meta-data descriptions, SPARQL features supported, and performance for generic queries.

The 6-Minute Walk Distance (6-MWD) has been the most utilized endpoint for judging the efficacy of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) therapy in clinical trials conducted over the past two decades. Despite its simplicity, widespread use in recent trials and overall prognostic value, the 6-MWD has often been criticized over the past several years and pleas from several PAH experts have emerge...

the study was carried out to develop an efficient approach for prediction the genotoxicity of carbon nanotubes. the experimental data on the bacterial reverse mutation test (ta100) on multi-walled carbon nanotubes (mwcnts) was collected from the literature and examined as an endpoint. by means of the optimal descriptors calculated with the monte carlo method a mathematical model of the endpoint...

Four quantitative reverse transcription-PCR (RT-PCR) methods were compared to evaluate the time course of mRNA formation and decay. Mouse fibroblasts (NIH 3T3) transfected with the human beta-globin open reading frame/c-myc 3'-untranslated region chimeric gene under control of the c-fos promoter (fos-glo-myc) were used for serum-inducible transcription. The amount of fos-glo-myc mRNA, relative ...
