Several methods of femoral hernia repair have been described. It is the one most likely to strangulate, its repair must often be accompanied by examination of, and sometimes resection of, bowel or omentum. We describe a new method to repair such a hernia.
Abstract We present the case of a 71-year-old female with an inguinal swelling. Intra-abdominally appendix was found in femoral hernia sac (De Garengeot’s hernia). A laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal repair procedure performed uneventful post-operative course. Clinical presentation this type is unspecific and often not to be distinguished from common incarcerated hernia. Computed tomogr...
Sir, We read with interest the paper by Heys and Brittenden on 'Strangulated femoral hernia: the persisting clinical trap'.' We have had 4 similar cases in the last year. A 57 year old woman with a known history of inflammatory bowel disease presented to the medical ward with abdominal pain and vomiting. Examination and abdominal X-rays were consistent with small bowel obstruction. However, the...
INTRODUCTION Indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence has been reported for examining intestinal blood flow (IBF), but not in the case of bowel released from entrapment in a femoral hernia. We report the case of a patient with incarcerated obturator femoral hernia in whom the bowel was preserved after evaluation of IBF with ICG fluorescence using a brightfield full-color near-infrared fluorescence ...

The majority of patients with small bowel diverticula are asymptomatic, however, associated complications include inflammation, intestinal obstruction, perforation and gastrointestinal haemorrhage. Bladder divertulae are uncommon and can herniate into the femoral or inguinal canal as well as the scrotum. We report the case of an elderly lady who underwent laparotomy for an incarcerated femoral ...
IMPORTANCE Abdominal wall hernia is one of the most common conditions encountered by general surgeons. Rising rates of abdominal wall hernia repair have been described; however, population-based evidence concerning incidence rates of emergent hernia repair and changes with time are unknown. OBJECTIVE To examine trends in rates of emergent abdominal hernia repair within the United States for i...
Femoral hernias are challenging conditions, not only because their diagnosis is often missed, but also because if left undiagnosed and untreated, their complications are severe and often life-threatening. The authors present the second reported case of a femoral hernia of the Richter's variety containing caecum and appendix that, following strangulation and perforation, manifested as a groin ab...
Abstract Amyand's hernia is defined as when the appendix is trapped within an inguinal hernia. While the incidence of this type of hernia is rare, the appendix may become incarcerated within Amyand's hernia and lead to further complications such as strangulation and perforation. Incarceration of the appendix most commonly occurs within inguinal and femoral hernias, but may arise to a lesser ext...
Femoral hernias are challenging conditions, not only because their diagnosis is often missed, but also because if left undiagnosed and untreated, their complications are severe and often life-threatening. The authors present a case of a femoral hernia of the small intestine and omentum, following strangulation, manifested as a groin abscess.
