Absorption determined by mass transfer in the liquid is described well with the Graetz-L&&que equation adapted from heat transfer. The influence of a chemical reaction on the mass transfer was simulated with a numerical model and tested on the absorption of CO2 in a hydroxide solution. Absorption determined by mass transfer in the gas phase and the pores of the membrane was also analysed experi...

Separation is one of the most important process in all the chemical industries and the gas absorption is the simplest example of separation process which is generally used for the absorption of dilute components from a gaseous mixture. In the present work, a dynamic system of mathematical equation (algebraic and differential) is modeled to predict the behavior of the absorption column using mat...

We describe a new method for visualization of gas flows based on infrared absorption and gas-correlation techniques. This result is a gray-scale or false color-coded image showing the distribution of a specific gas in the area studied. A sequence of images showing the workplace test setup with a turbulent flowing gas is presented.

The development of a compact tunable mid-IR laser system at 3.5 micrometers for quantitative airborne spectroscopic trace gas absorption measurements is reported. The mid-IR laser system is based on difference frequency generation (DFG) in periodically poled LiNbO3 and utilizes optical fiber amplified near-IR diode and fiber lasers as pump sources operating at 1083 nm and 1562 nm, respectively....

nanostructures have considerably higher surface areas than their bulk counterparts; thereforesurfaces often play important, sometimes even dominant, roles in the nanostructure properties. thenanocrystalline and nanotubes have low band gaps and high carrier mobility, thus offeringappealing potential as absorption gas. interaction between methanol molecules and carbonnanotube is investigated usin...

Recent STIS and FUSE observations have detected O VI absorption lines at low redshift that are not clearly associated with any galactic system. In this paper, we argue that these lines are due to metal enriched hot gas in the intergalactic medium. Using numerical simulations of a cosmological-constant dominated cosmology, combined with reasonable assumptions about the metallicity distribution, ...

Possible origins of the molecular absorption discovered in some ULIRGs are investigated, based on a 3-D hydrodynamic model of star-forming interstellar gas in a galactic central region. The blue-shifted, warm (∼ 200−300 K), dense (> 10 cm) molecular gas suggested by CO absorption in IRAS 08752+3915 could be caused by the innermost region of the inhomogeneous inter-stellar medium (ISM) around a ...

Optical gas detection in microsystems is limited by the short micron scale optical path length available. Recently, the concept of slow-light enhanced absorption has been proposed as a route to compensate for the short path length in miniaturized absorption cells. We extend the previous perturbation theory to the case of a Bragg stack infiltrated by a spectrally strongly dispersive gas with a n...

We analyze the physical conditions in the low-ionization component of starburst outflows (in contrast to the high-ionization wind fluid observed in X-rays), based on new Keck/LRIS spectroscopy of partially resolved absorption troughs in near-ultraviolet and optical spectra of Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies. The large velocity width and blueshift present in seven, atomic transitions indicate a ...

We look for signs of the H I transverse proximity effect in the spectra of 130 QSO pairs, most with transverse separations in the plane of the sky of 0.1 – 3 Mpc at z ∼ 2.2. We expected to see a decrease in Lyα forest H I absorption in the spectrum of background QSOs near the position of foreground QSOs. Instead we see no change in the absorption in front of the foreground QSOs, and we see evid...
