BACKGROUND Impulse noise produced from firearms can potentially damage hearing organs resulting in sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). In Chiang Mai during 1997, Detphithak et al reported a prevalence of acute acoustic trauma (AAT) in 22% of new military privates using an H.K.33 for shooting practice without hearing protection. The H.K.33 renders an average sound pressure level of 128 dBA. Earmu...

Two thousand, seven hundred and ninety one normal and handicapped children aged 5-15 years were examined for traumatic dental injuries. Twelve percent had traumatised teeth while three percent had soft tissue injuries. More handicapped children (18%) than normal children (11%) had injuries. This study indicates that children need to be educated on preventive measures regarding traumatic dental ...

The difficulties with the simple shooting method for the solution of ordinary differential boundary value problems are well known, and there have been many suggested modifications to overcome them. Notable among them are the discrete orthonormalization process of Godunov and Conte (1966), the multiple shooting method (Keller(1968) and Osborne(1969)) and the Riccati transformation method (Scott(...

The results of an empirical study are presented to investigate the relationship between different action types (real versus virtual shooting) and different target types (real versus virtual targets) on the actual emotional state (well-being) of the player. The results show significantly that virtual shooting on real targets in a group (Laser-Tag game) enhances the well-being, and on the other s...

The present study investigates in a nationally representative sample how White Americans' causal attributions of these shooting moderate their attitudes toward the shooter's race. White Americans shown a vignette based on the Virginia Tech shooting were more likely to espouse negative be...

αu(0)−β u(0) = 0, γu(1)+ δu(1) = 0, (2) where α,β ,γ,δ ≥ 0,λ ∈ R and ρ := γβ + αγ + αδ > 0; p ∈ C((0,1), [0,∞)) and may be singular at t = 0,t = 1. When λ < 0, see [3,4,7,8] for the result concerning the above problem. When λ > 0, [6] shows the existence and uniqueness to (1) and (2) in the case of β = δ = 0 by means of the shooting method. For the following problem u + p(t)u−λ(t)+ q(t)u(t) = 0...

14 A [33_TD$DIFF]Airborne lead and acidic gasses are generated through combustion and mechanical abrasion of ammunition constituents during shooting events. Shooters and other personnel at shooting ranges are exposed to these airborne toxicants and the potential health risks of irritation, nervous system damage, and cancer. Past studies primarily focused on full-length work-shift exposure to le...
