We study a generalization of the classical Marcinkiewicz-Zygmund inequalities. We relate this problem to the sampling sequences in the Paley-Wiener space and by using this analogy we give sharp necessary and sufficient computable conditions for a family of points to satisfy the Marcinkiewicz-Zygmund inequalities.

Using isoperimetry and symmetrization we provide a unified framework to study the classical and logarithmic Sobolev inequalities. In particular, we obtain new Gaussian symmetrization inequalities and connect them with logarithmic Sobolev inequalities. Our methods are very general and can be easily adapted to more general contexts.

We consider the reduction of problems on general noncommutative Lp-spaces to the corresponding ones on those associated with finite von Neumann algebras. The main tool is an unpublished result of the first-named author which approximates any noncommutative Lpspace by tracial ones. We show that under some natural conditions a map between two von Neumann algebras extends to their crossed products...

Primary health care was conceived in the 70s as a comprehensive, joint and inclusive strategy to achieve the goal of "Health for Everyone". It was the result of important social, political and economic changes which occurred at global level back in those years and which persist until now. Self-reported health is considered a health outcome related to neighborhood characteristics. This study analyzes the influence of urban multi-criteria deprivation and spatial accessibility to healthcare on individual self-reported health from a case study carried out in the city of Quito, Ecuador. A multi-criteria deprivation index and two alternative scenarios of this index were generated. A g...

This paper provides an 'equity lens' through which practitioners, policy makers and researchers can measure and monitor the equity of healthcare services provided. An argument is put forward which shows that services need to be assessed in terms of inequities, as opposed to the more often used terms of inequalities or disparities. This is not just a semantic argument, rather it is based on the ...

Most analyses of racial and ethnic disparities in healthcare focus on individuals rather than organizations. Healthcare organizations may be one mechanism that produces disparities if the representation of minorities within organizations' patient populations is associated with differential patterns of service delivery. This research considers whether the racial and ethnic composition of addicti...
