Viral hemorrhagic septicemia virus (VHSV; strain VHSV-IVb) is an emergent and serious disease of fish in the Great Lakes region of North America. In addition to the numerous large-scale mortality events in wild fish, the emergence of VHSV has resulted in a major regulatory response to protect both farm-raised and wild fish populations. However, characterizing and mitigating risk factors for the...
Chromobacterium violaceum, a saprophyte bacterium found commonly in soil and water in tropical and subtropical climates, is a rare cause of severe, often fatal, human disease. We report 1 confirmed and 2 suspected cases of C. violaceum septicemia, with 2 fatalities, in siblings after recreational exposure in northeastern Brazil.
One of the most valuable aquaculture fish in Europe is the rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss, but the profitability of trout production is threatened by a highly lethal infectious disease, viral hemorrhagic septicemia (VHS), caused by the VHS virus (VHSV). For the past few decades, the subgenogroup Ia of VHSV has been the main cause of VHS outbreaks in European freshwater-farmed rainbow trout....
Haemorrhagic septicaemia (HS) is a highly fatal disease in cattle and buffaloes, caused by specific serotypes of Pasteurella mul tocida. It is a primary pasteurellosis reproducible in susceptible animals with the specific organism alone. The accepted classification of Pasteurella multocida is based on the identification of its somatic and capsu lar antigens. On this basis two serotypes designa...
In eastern Europe, few countries have so far reported laboratory-confirmed cases of lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV). Here we describe 22 LGV cases in men who have sex with men (MSM) detected in Hungary from November 2012 to July 2016. Sequence analyses show that 16 of these 22 cases were affected by the L2c genovariant, with from 2012 to 2014, one LGV L2c case detected per year, followed by seve...

Dysgonic fermenter-2 (DF-2) is a newly described gram-negative bacterium that can produce serious infections in the compromised host. We are reporting a case of DF-2 septicaemia in a splenectomized patient with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. The clinical spectrum of infections due to the DF-2 bacterium, the difficulties in establishing the diagnosis and the preferential treatment are discussed.
Fourteen single and two double point mutants in the highly conserved region (positions 56 to 159) of the G gene of viral hemorrhagic septicaemia virus (VHSV), a salmonid rhabdovirus, were selected and obtained in plasmids by site-directed mutagenesis. Fish cell monolayers transfected with the mutant plasmids were then assayed for protein G (pG) expression, conformation-dependent monoclonal anti...
