Abstract Background & aim: Occult hepatitis B virus infection in blood donors threats the safety of the blood supply. It is characterized by detection of low viral DNA in the serum subjects who have negative test for Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg). The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of occult hepatitis B virus infection among HBsAg negative and HBcAb positive in blood ...
conclusions the diagnosis of the high frequency of solitary ttv and co-infection with hbv, in both liver transplanted patients with cryptogenic and determined cirrhosis, emphasized on the importance of ttv infection in the development of cirrhosis, especially in the cases of cryptogenic ones, prompting for further studies the confirm this agent in the etiology of determined cirrhosis. results t...
background the presence of an infected family member significantly increases the risk of hbv transmission, but many socio-demographic and viral characteristics of family members affect the transmission rate. objectives in this study, we have used data mining techniques to investigate the impact of different variables in intrafamilial transmission of hbv infection. patients and methods demograph...
Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is an etiological agent of hepatitis B infection. Hepatitis B is a life-threatening disease that affects the liver. The clinical outcomes of the disease are varied from asymptomatic disease to serious complication such as cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Despite availability of the vaccine and appropriate treatment, hepatitis B infection still remains a majo...
Background: Although regular frequent blood transfusion improves overall survival of multi-transfused patients like β-thalassemic ones, it carries a definite risk of infection with blood-borne viruses such as viral hepatitis. This study was done to determine seropositivity of hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), and Human Immunedeficiency Virus (HIV) infections among β-th...
BACKGROUND Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a major health problem worldwide. OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency of occult hepatitis B infection (OBI) and its associated risk factors, together with the molecular characterization of the virus in injecting drug users of Tehran. PATIENTS AND METHODS The study consisted of 229 injecting drug users. Serum sampl...
The reverse transcriptase V207I mutation within the hepatitis B virus (HBV) polymerase is associated with resistance to lamivudine in vitro. The prevalence of this mutation in treatment-naive patients was 1% (1/96). A follow-up of the patient carrying this mutation prior to treatment revealed no loss of sensitivity of HBV to lamivudine in vivo.
Each of the risk factors for human liver cancer (aflatoxin exposure, hepatitis B virus-associated liver injury, p53 loss, p53ser249 mutation, and male sex) also increases the incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in mouse models of hepatocarcinogenesis. Neonatal mice, partially hepatectomized adult mice, and p53-deficient mice each have a higher hepatocyte proliferation rate, are less abl...
