Histograms of oriented gradients (HOG) are widely employed image descriptors in modern computer-aided diagnosis systems. Built upon a set of local, robust statistics of low-level image gradients, HOG features are usually computed on raw intensity images. In this paper, we explore a learned image transformation scheme for producing higher-level inputs to HOG. Leveraging semantic object boundary ...

A reverse transcriptase-PCR strategy was developed for the detection of hog cholera virus. Hog cholera virus template was amplified from tissue culture fluids and from tissues and blood of infected pigs, but not from samples containing other pestiviruses. Restriction endonuclease analysis identified samples as historic or recent isolates.

1. Acid secretion and rate of histamine formation in the gastric mucosa were determined in rats after injection of hog gastrin II, gastrin pentapeptide and some substituted analogues of the C-terminal tetrapeptide of gastrin.2. Accelerated mucosal histamine formation was induced by hog gastrin II, gastrin pentapeptide and those analogues which elicited acid secretion, whereas secretorily inacti...

Background Anaerobic (absence of air or oxygen) bacteria play an important role in breaking down the hog waste (urine, feces, wasted feed, etc.) into simpler organic and inorganic compounds in the pits and lagoons. However, this also results in the production of many organic gases, also called volatile organic compounds (VOCs) as well as inorganic gases (e.g., ammonia, hydrogen sulfide). Many o...

The hog deer (Axis porcinus) is a small deer whose natural habitat is the wet or moist tall grasslands in South and Southeast Asia. Wild populations have dramatically decreased in recent decades. While wild hog deer were recently acknowledged to be extinct in China, a few captive populations have been maintained. In the present study, we successfully employed the restriction-site-associated DNA...

Digit Recognition is an essential element of the process of scanning and converting documents into electronic format. In this work, a new Multiple-Cell Size (MCS) approach is being proposed for utilizing Histogram of Oriented Gradient (HOG) features and a Support Vector Machine (SVM) based classifier for efficient classification of Handwritten Digits. The HOG based technique is sensitive to the...

Feature plays a very important role in the area of image processing. Before extracting features, image pre-processing technique like resizing is applied on the input image. Then, features are obtained by various feature extraction techniques. These features are then used for classification and recognition of the objects in an image. Features are useful in terms of space utilization, efficiency ...

1. The plasma cholesterol and cholesterol ester content of swine, experimentally infected with hog cholera, exhibit a regular succession of changes. During the period of incubation of the disease, for 3 or more days following inoculation with hog cholera virus, hypocholesterolemia prevails. This is followed by a period of hypercholesterolemia which is coincident with the onset of the clinical m...

Antimicrobial drugs are fed to hogs at sub-therapeutic levels to prevent disease and promote growth. However, there is concern that the presence of antimicrobial drugs in hog feed is a factor promoting the development of antimicrobial drug-resistant bacteria. This study describes the extent to which antibiotics are used in hog production and how this changed between 2004 and 2009. This study al...

The hog industry needs to be placed within the context of a sustainable development strategy to ensure the long term health of workers and the affected communities. A comprehensive review of the potential environmental impacts would not be complete without consideration of the occupational health risks related to the industry. The hog industry poses health risks to Manitoba workers that must be...
