A theory of lattice Boltzmann (LB) models for hydrodynamic simulation is developed upon a novel relation between entropy construction and roots of Hermite polynomials. A systematic procedure is described for constructing numerically stable and complete Galilean invariant LB models. The stability of the new LB models is illustrated with a shock tube simulation.

We determine the high-frequency limiting shear viscosity, eta(infinity), in colloidal suspensions of rigid, uniformly porous spheres of radius a as a function of volume fraction phi and (inverse) porosity parameter x. Our study covers the complete fluid-state regime. The flow inside the spheres is modeled by the Debye-Bueche-Brinkman equation using the boundary condition that fluid velocity and...

Device modeling of novel semiconductor devices requires adapted physical models which include quantum mechanical effects. The quantum hydrodynamic as well as the quantum drift diffusion model offers effective possibilities for the simulation of nanoscale devices, particularly if tunneling processes appear. The models can be implemented effectively in conventional device simulation systems.

The problem of expansion of a dilute granular gas consisting of smooth, inelastic hard spheres into vacuum was investigated by three different methods: both (1) analytical and (2) computational (CFD) treatments of a hydrodynamic model, and (3) by Discrete Element Method (DEM) simulation. Furthermore, the systems were followed for long times, over which the granular kinetic energy decreases by s...

An efficient simulation method is presented for Brownian fiber suspensions, which includes both uncrossability of the fibers and hydrodynamic interactions between the fibers mediated by a mesoscopic solvent. To conserve hydrodynamics, collisions between the fibers are treated such that momentum and energy are conserved locally. The choice of simulation parameters is rationalized on the basis of...

since knowledge on hydrodynamic torque of a butterfly valve is very important for butterfly valve design, its hydrodynamic torque is investigated in this paper. in reality, the investigation of the loss coefficient and torque from some experiments will take a long time and a lot of money. this paper presents a statistical study of the flow past the butterfly valve in a static analysis using com...

Bushehr Bay is situated along the northern Iranian coasts of the Persian Gulf, between 28°52΄ and 29°5΄ north latitude and 50°42΄ and 50°52΄east longitude. In this study COHERENS, which is a threedimensional hydrodynamic model, was employed to simulate surface and under surface currents in the Bushehr Bay. The atmospheric forces and four main tidal constituents M2, S2, K1, O1 and also boundary ...

This work proposes a numerical model that incorporates the effect of lubricant inertia on the hydrodynamic pressure distribution, fluid film reaction forces, and the fluid velocity component profiles for finite-length open-ended squeeze film dampers (SFDs). Firstly, the thin film flow equations for the SFD in presence of fluid inertia effects are introduced. Furthermore, a small first-order per...

In this study, liquid-liquid extraction process in a Kuhni extraction column was modeled and simulated. A non-equilibrium dynamic model was developed for modeling liquid-liquid extraction processes based on a rate-based model. The model equations are inclusive of partial and ordinary differential equations which were discretized in column height direction. The population balance model was used ...
