Aspergillus is described as mould characterised by septate hyphae about 2-4μ in diameter, it is ubiquitous in nature and spreads by inhalation of spores. It causes opportunistic infections in almost six forms namely Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis, Aspergillus sinusitis, Cutaneous aspergillosis, Aspergilloma, Chronic pulmonary aspergillosis, Invasive aspergillosis. INTRODUCTION Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis is a leading cause of mortality and morbidity in bone marrow transplant recipients. Establishing the diagnosis remains a challenge for clinicians working in acute care setting. However, prompt diagnosis and treatment can lead to favourable outcomes CASE PRESENTATION We report a case of invasive aspergillosis occurring in a 39-year-old Caucasian fe...

BACKGROUND Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) is a rapid, progressive, fatal disease that occurs mostly in immunocompromised patients. Patients with severe liver disease are at a heightened risk for infections. Little is known about the clinical presentation including predisposing factors and treatment of IPA in patients with hepatic failure. METHODS Medical records of patients with hepat...

The halo sign is a CT finding of ground-glass opacity surrounding a pulmonary nodule or mass. The reversed halo sign is a focal rounded area of ground-glass opacity surrounded by a crescent or complete ring of consolidation. In severely immunocompromised patients, these signs are highly suggestive of early infection by an angioinvasive fungus. The halo sign and reversed halo sign are most commo...

Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) predominantly occurs in severely neutropenic immunocompromised subjects. The occurrence of acute IPA after brief but massive exposure to Aspergillus conidia in previously healthy subjects has been documented, although only six such cases have been reported. The diagnosis was delayed in all six of the affected patients, five of whom died. We report the case...

Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis is uncommon in man and is rare as a cause of death in children. When diffuse pulmonary infection with aspergillus has developed it has nearly always complicated a pre-existing disorder, either of the lungs themselves or one of a more generalized nature (Symmers, 1964). We present, therefore, an account of fatal pulmonary aspergillosis affecting a child and her i...

Semiinvasive pulmonary aspergillosis is an indolent form of pulmonary aspergillosis, which is seen mainly in patients who are mildly immunocompromised with underlying chronic lung diseases. This syndrome is rare, and the available literature is based on case reports and small case series. We describe here a patient with a semiinvasive aspergillosis associated with a probable idiopathic pulmonar...

This is a report of a patient with aspergillosis infection, which was thought to be a tumoral lesion during its investigation. This is not a common disease in Western countries, and this report should increase our awareness for differential diagnosis of nasal masses. Early diagnosis is desired in order to increase the survival rates.

We report a case of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis in a patient taking ibrutinib, a Bruton's tyrosine kinase inhibitor used to treat refractory chronic lymphocytic leukemia. We hypothesize that ibrutinib promoted this infection by suppressing innate immune responses against Aspergillus. Clinicians should be aware of potential Aspergillus infections in patients treated with this drug.
