Block copolymer (BCP) self-assembly is a low-cost means to nanopattern surfaces. Here, we use these nanopatterns to directly print arrays of nanodots onto a conducting substrate (Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) coated glass) for application as an electrochemical sensor for ethanol (EtOH) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) detection. The work demonstrates that BCP systems can be used as a highly efficient, fle...
Dicopper(i) complexes with the chelating dmapm ligand [dmapm = 1,1-bis{di(o-N,N-dimetylanilinyl)phosphino}methane] have been synthesized and characterized structurally. Synthesis of the acetonitrile adduct [Cu2(μ-dmapm)(CH3CN)2][BF4]2 () has been presented and the dicopper electrophile has been used as the starting material in reaction with Group 14 heteroborates. Coordination of the closo-bora...
We present extensive photometric and spectroscopic observations of the Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) 2000cx in the S0 galaxy NGC 524, which reveal it to be peculiar. Photometrically, SN 2000cx is different from all known SNe Ia, and its light curves cannot be fit well by the fitting techniques currently available. There is an apparent asymmetry in the B-band peak, in which the premaximum brightenin...
The ores of chromite, nickel, copper, and zinc show a wide distribution over geologic time, but those of iron, titanium, lead, uranium, gold, silver, molybdenum, tungsten, and tin are more restricted. Many of the limitations to specific time intervals are probably imposed by the evolving tectonic history of Earth interacting with the effects of the biomass on the evolution of the earth's s surf...
Among the various materials used for Buddhist statues, iron is noteworthy in history of Korean art as it only started to be Buddha statues late Shilla and almost disappears after Koryŏ. Previous studies have attributed emergence introduction Sŏn(Chinese Chan) Buddhism Shilla, rise local powers, shortage copper, but this study argues that lack tin brought production statues. was not short tin, a...
A method is proposed for detecting positron-atom bound states by observing enhanced positron annihilation due to electronic Feshbach resonances at electron-volt energies. The method is applicable to a range of open-shell transition-metal atoms which are likely to bind the positron: Fe, Co, Ni, Tc, Ru, Rh, Sn, Sb, Ta, W, Os, Ir, and Pt. Estimates of their binding energies are provided.
We have investigated random submonolayer films of 3d transition metals on W(001). The tight-binding linear muffin-tin orbital method combined with the coherent potential approximation was employed to calculate the electronic structure of the films. We have estimated local magnetic moments and the stability of different magnetic structures, namely the ferromagnetic order, the disordered local mo...
