This paper reports a technique for independent observation of nanometer-scale Joule heating and thermoelectric effects, using atomic force microscopy (AFM) based measurements of nanometer-scale temperature fields. When electrical current flows through nanoscale devices and contacts the temperature distribution is governed by both Joule and thermoelectric effects. When the device is driven by an...

We study, both theoretically and experimentally, the features on current-voltage characteristic of a highly transparent Josephson junction caused by transition superconducting leads to normal state. These appear due suppression Andreev excess current. show that tracing dependence voltage, at which occurs, bath temperature analyzing current bias voltage one can recover heat flow out junction. ve...

Measurements with the Sondrestrom radar have been used to examine the daytime thermospheric neutral wind and to relate that wind to other geophysical parameters. Ion drag is found to be particularly important for determining the wind pattern. However, evidence is presented that the wind pattern is significantly influenced by soft particle precipitation and, possibly, by Joule heating.

Our extensive measurements of damage thresholds for fused silica and several fluorides (LiF, CaF, MgF and BaF) at 1053 and 526 nm for pulse durations, 2, ranging from 275 fs to 1 ns are reported elsewhere at this meeting. A theoretical model based on electron production via multiphoton ionization, Joule heating, and collisional (avalanche) ionization is in good agreement with experimental results.

This paper presents a model for Joule heating induced analyte dispersion in electrophoretic separation channels with a rectangular cross section. The model is in closed form and captures the effect of cross-sectional geometry. Three-dimensional numerical simulations are performed to satisfactorily verify the model, which can be used to accurately predict the performance of high speed electropho...

Nanoelectrochemical patterning of redox responsive organometallic poly(ferrocenylsilane) (PFS) multilayers is demonstrated by electrochemical dip pen lithography (EDPN). Local electrochemical oxidation and Joule heating of PFS multilayers from the tip are considered as relevant mechanisms related to structure generation. The influence of applied bias potential, tip velocity, and multilayer thic...
