This paper presents a model based on LSA which attempts to simulate the way humans assess student summaries. It is based on the automatic detection of 5 cognitive operations that student may use in writing a summary. Comparisons with data from 33 human raters show the strengths and limits of this approach.

Latent semantic analysis (LSA) is a model of knowledge representation for words. It works by applying dimension reduction to local co-occurrence data from a large collection of documents after performing singular value decomposition on it. When the reduction is applied, the system forms condensed representations for the words that incorporate higher order associations. The higher order associat...

How much information about meaning is contained in the statistical structure of the environment? LSA is a theoretical and practical tool that is challenging previous notions about what is contained in the statistical structure of the environment. This paper examines what kind of category knowledge can be obtained from the environment using LSA. In particular, two experiments are conducted with ...

Seventy high socially anxious (HSA) and 74 low socially anxious (LSA) participants rated perceived interpersonal and emotional consequences of both (a) autobiographical social blunders recalled from their own lives and (b) imagined blunders presented in standardized hypothetical social scenarios. Ratings of participants' autobiographical blunders were also provided by research assistants who we...

The little known raspy cricket subfamily Gryllacridinae is reviewed for Korea. Three species are confirmed through material examination and are taxonomically considered as follows: Eugryllacris japonica (Matsumura et Shiraki, 1908) comb. nov. is transferred from Prosopogryllacris japonica (Matsumura et Shiraki, 1908), Nippancistroger testaceus (Matsumura et Shiraki, 1908) has a newly proposed j...

Research in free recall has demonstrated that semantic associations reliably influence the organization of search through episodic memory. However, the specific structure of these associations and the mechanisms by which they influence memory search remain unclear. We introduce a likelihood-based model-comparison technique, which embeds a model of semantic structure within the context maintenan...

In two experiments, we attempted to replicate and extend findings by Günther et al. (2016) that word similarity measures obtained from distributional semantics models-Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA) and Hyperspace Analog to Language (HAL)-predict lexical priming effects. To this end, we used the pseudo-random method to generate item material while systematically controlling for word similarities...

Spiroplasma turonicum Tab4c(T) was isolated from a horse fly (Haematopota sp.; probably Haematopota pluvialis) collected at Champchevrier, Indre-et-Loire, Touraine, France, in 1991. Here, we report the complete genome sequence of this bacterium to facilitate the investigation of its biology and the comparative genomics among Spiroplasma spp.

Since its original description by Devergie in 1854, several cases of linear lichen planus have been described in the literature, but there have been notably few cases of the more rare zosteriform lichen planus. Zosteriform lichen planus needs to be differentiated from linear lichen planus and other linear dermatoses. We present a case of Zosteriform Lichen planus for its rarity and briefly revi...

Sir, The origin of lichen amyloidosus (LA) is controversial. It is a form of primary cutaneous amyloidosus in which fibrillar proteinaceous material is deposited solely in the skin, without associated systemic manifestations. LA is typically highly pruritic, and the deposition of fibrillar material has generally been considered to be secondary to the scratching induced by other subjacent prurit...
