6-(1-Methylpyrrol-2-yl)-2,2'-bipyridine, 3, and 6-(selenophene-2-yl)-2,2'-bipyridine, 4, have been prepared and characterized in solution and by structural determinations. Copper(I) complexes [CuL(2)][PF(6)] in which L is 2,2'-bipyridine substituted in the 6-position by furyl, thienyl, N-methylpyrrolyl, selenopheneyl, methyl or phenyl, (L = 1-6) have been synthesized. The complexes have been ch...

Firefly luciferase-catalyzed light emission from D-luciferin is widely used as a reporter of gene expression and enzymatic activity both in vitro and in vivo. Despite the power of bioluminescence for imaging and drug discovery, light emission from firefly luciferase is fundamentally limited by the physical properties of the D-luciferin substrate. We and others have synthesized aminoluciferin an...

In the context of conjugated polymers, especially those of the poly (phenylenevinylene) (PPV) family, which are promising candidates as emission material in light emitting devices such as LEDs, field effect transistors and photovoltaic devices, we have, in the present study, prepared MEH-PPV [Poly [2- methoxy-5-(2’-ethyl-hexyloxy)-1,4-phenylen-evinylene] of low molecular weight and low polydisp...

Comparative analyses of phenotypic and molecular traits of Arabidopsis thaliana grown under standardised conditions is still a challenge using climatic devices supplied with common light sources. These are in most cases fluorescent lights, which have several disadvantages such as heat production at higher light intensities, an invariable spectral output, and relatively rapid "ageing". This resu...

Measurements of light emission are reported in the 1.1–2.5 eV energy range, by hot electrons in the In0.53Ga0.47As channel of a complementary charge injection transistor. By comparing electrical characteristics and light emission, there is the ability to identify the intraconduction band transitions as the main light emission mechanism. Hot-electron effective temperatures up to 2200 K have been...

To determine the amount of air pollutants, produced by Iranian automakers, and compare it with old and retrofitted vehicles have become one of the important tools of urban management. The present research uses International Vehicle Emission (IVE) modeling software in order to verify SAIPA Co. fleet emissions, based on Euro 4 emission standard (SAIPA Co. recognized as a superior Iranian brand in...

A major breakthrough in our understanding of how plants oxidize water to molecular O(2) was the discovery by P. Joliot and co-workers that the O(2) yield per flash, in a series of light flashes, oscillates with a periodicity of 4. This led to the concept by B. Kok and co-workers that these reactions involve accumulation of four positive charges in independent "O(2)-evolving centers," which unde...

We report white-light-emitting Mn-doped ZnSe nanocrystals (NCs) that are synthesized using modified nucleation doping strategy. Tailoring three distinct emission mechanisms in these NCs, which are MnSe-related blue emission (410 and 435 nm), Zn-related defect state green emission (520 nm), and Mn-dopant related orange emission (580 nm), allowed us to achieve excitation wavelength tailorable whi...

With the aid of a sulfur-specific flame photometric detector, an emission of volatile sulfur was detected from leaves of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.), squash and pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo L.), cantaloupe (Cucumis melo L.), corn (Zea mays L.), soybean (Glycine max [L.] Merr.) and cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.). The emission was studied in detail in squash and pumpkin. It occurred following treatm...

A novel BODIPY-containing organic small molecule is synthesized and employed as a down-converting layer on a commercial blue light-emitting diode (LED). The resulting hybrid device demonstrates white-light emission under low-current operation, with color coordinates of (0.34, 0.31) and an efficacy of 13.6 lm/W; four times greater than the parent blue LED.
