The temperature dependence below Tc of the lineshape of optical phonons of different symmetry as seen in Raman scattering is investigated for superconductors with anisotropic energy gaps. It is shown that the symmetry of the electron-phonon vertex produces non-trivial couplings to an anisotropic energy gap which leads to unique changes in the phonon lineshape for phonons of different symmetry. ...
Combinations of up to 6 zone-edge and zone-center optical phonons are observed in the Raman spectra of individual single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs). These multiphonon Raman modes exhibit distinct signatures of the one-dimensional nature of SWNTs and provide information on the phonon structure, exciton-phonon coupling, and excitonic transitions in nanotubes.
We investigate the small-particle phonon-polariton response of several microstructures that are made of silicon carbide (SiC). Phonon polaritons can be excited in a wavelength region between 10 and 12 mm. Simple structures such as elliptical cylinders support phonon polaritons at two wavelengths, which depend on the axis ratio of the particle. In particles with a more irregular shape such as re...
BACKGROUND Quantifying changes in forest bird diversity is an essential task for developing effective conservation actions. When subtle changes in diversity accumulate over time, annual comparisons may offer an incomplete perspective of changes in diversity. In this case, progressive change, the comparison of changes in diversity from a baseline condition, may offer greater insight because chan...
We investigate the reflection near the reststrahlen band of the optical phonon in bulk GaAs in the time domain, using time-resolved terahertz spectroscopy. We find that the dynamics of the reflection measured for GaAs differs strongly from the reflection dynamics that would be expected for a TO phonon with a frequency-independent dephasing time.
in this study, bio-based carbon nanotubes (cnts) have received considerable research attention due to their comparative advantages of high level stability, simplistic use, low toxicity and overall environmental friendliness. new potentials for improvement in heat transfer applications are presented due to their high aspect ratio, high thermal conductivity and special surface area. phonons have ...
The recent observation of superconductivity in doped topological insulators has sparked a flurry of interest due to the prospect of realizing the long-sought topological superconductors. Yet the understanding of underlying pairing mechanism in these systems is far from complete. Here we investigate this problem by providing robust first-principles calculations of the role of electron-phonon cou...
Experimental dependence of microwave noise temperature on supplied electric power is used to estimate hot-phonon number in a modulation-doped In0.52Al0.48As/In0.53Ga0.47As/In0.7Ga0.3As/In0.52Al0.48As two-dimensional electron gas channel (n2D = 2.3×10 cm−2). The nonequilibrium occupancy of the involved longitudinal optical phonon states exceeds the equilibrium one nearly twice at 2 kV/cm electri...
We report the ultrafast dynamics of electrons and lattice in transition metal thin films (Au, Cu, and Mo) investigated by a combination of ultrafast electron diffraction (UED) and pump-probe optical methods. For a single-crystalline Au thin film, we observe the suppression of the diffraction intensity occuring in 10 ps, which direcly reflects the lattice thermalization via the electron-phonon i...
We report the observation of coherent lattice vibrations in mono- and few-layer WSe2 in the time domain, which were obtained by performing time-resolved transmission measurements. Upon the excitation of ultrashort pulses with the energy resonant to that of A excitons, coherent oscillations of the A1g optical phonon and longitudinal acoustic phonon at the M point of the Brillouin zone (LA(M)) we...
