Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) play a critical role in diagnosing aortic disease such as aortic dissection and aneurysm. Additionally, the advent of contrast-enhanced MRA has allowed MRA to advance markedly and several new imaging techniques to emerge as well. While computed tomography (CT) angiography using multidetector-row CT is a significant innova...

This article introduces a connectionist model of category learning that takes into account the prior knowledge that people bring to new learning situations. In contrast to connectionist learning models that assume a feedforward network and learn by the delta rule or backpropagation, this model, the knowledge-resonance model, or KRES, employs a recurrent network with bidirectional symmetric conn...

The small bowel, affected by a host of pathologic conditions can be difficult and challenging to image because of its length and tortuous course. However the small bowel imaging is evolving. There was a time when small-bowel follow-through (SBFT) was the primary and only method of diagnosing diseases of the small bowel. In recent years, there has been availability of a variety of techniques suc...

Coronary magnetic resonance angiography (CMRA) allows a noninvasive assessment of the coronary anatomy without exposing the patients to radiation. It is also superior to coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) for the evaluation of luminal narrowing in heavily calcified coronary segments. We report a case with triple-vessel disease, but it could not be accurately assessed by CCTA becaus...

PURPOSE To summarize and compare the validity of computed tomography angiography, magnetic resonance angiography, ultrasonography, captopril renal scintigraphy, and the captopril test for diagnosis of renal artery stenosis in patients suspected of having renovascular hypertension. DATA SOURCES For each diagnostic modality, published studies were identified by MEDLINE literature searches. ST...

BACKGROUND Concerns have been raised about physician ownership of onsite advanced imaging equipment as allowed under Stark laws by the in-office ancillary service exception (IOASE). METHODS A web-based survey of orthopedic practices in the United States was used to assign a first date of onsite MRI capacity acquisition (if any) to specific orthopedic practices. Medicare claims data for 2006-2...

PURPOSE To develop an accelerated and nonrigid motion-compensated technique for efficient isotropic 3D whole-heart coronary magnetic resonance angiography (CMRA) with Cartesian acquisition. METHODS Highly efficient whole-heart 3D CMRA was achieved by combining image reconstruction from undersampled data using compressed sensing (CS) with a nonrigid motion compensation framework. Undersampled ...

We report the first case of de novo formation a small 4- × 3-mm symptomatic aneurysm with subsequent subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) within 15 days. A pre-existing was excluded by magnetic resonance angiography, as well conventional angiography. In this case, there no history SAH, which is in contrast to other reported cases aneurysms that developed after previous rupture.
