the aim of this study was to investigate the immunomodulatory effects of spirulina platensis (s.platensis) by measuring the levels of serum interleukin (il)-4, il-10, il-17, tumor necrosis factor(tnf)-α and interferon (ifn)-|γ| in mice suffered from systemic candidiasis and breast cancer. theaqueous extract of s. platensis was selected for this study. balb/c female mice were inoculated withcand...

The effects of temperature, Mg2+, EDTA concentration and rinsing on extra- and intra-cellular DNase activity of Spirulina platensis strain SSP-14, were investigated. The results indicate that the tested strain contains very high extra- and intracellular DNase activity, which actually hinders the transfer of foreign gene(s) to S. platensis, a cyanobacterium with multiple economic potentials. The...

As an important alternative to alleviate the shortage of wild fishery resources, mariculture is facing increasing challenges on wastewater treatment, mainly due salinity brought from seawater and low nutrient concentration. In this study, Spirulina platensis (S. platensis) was adopted as target algae stain for synthetic which exhibited excellent adaptability high-saline during a 40 days’ adapti...

To investigate the feasibility of using fresh water from Mangueira Lagoon (Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil) for biomass production in open raceway ponds (0.7 m long, 0.18 m wide, 0.075 m deep) we studied the influence of nutrient addition (carbon as sodium bicarbonate, nitrogen as urea, phosphate, sulfate, ferric iron, magnesium and potassium) on the growth rate of the cyanobacteria Spirulina platens...

Compared with the parental strain, a Spirulina platensis mutant that is resistant to ethionine incorporated methionine into protein at a reduced rate, whereas ethionine incorporation was practically nil. The methionyl-tRNA synthetase present in crude extracts from the resistant strain showed a reduced affinity for methionine and ethionine.

Abstract Background The aging of the skin is considered a cumulative process that classed as intrinsic or extrinsic. Environmental factors like sun exposure and air pollution are main cause extrinsic aging. Mainly, reflects genetic background depends on time. Spirulina platensis unicellular blue–green algae have variety biological nutritional activities because their high level nutrients. curre...

Effect of algae movement, as a result of random mixing, between the surface and bottom zones of shallow, moderately deep and deep photobioreactors (incident light intensities per unit volume were 8125, 4062 and 2031~01. rnP3. s-l, respectively) on the reactor productivity was investigated. The results showed that at low cell concentrations, movement of cells between the surface and bottom zones...

This study was conducted to investigate the possible protective effect of Spirulina platensis against chromium-induced nephrotoxicity. A total of 36 adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 4 equal groups (Gps). Gp1 served as control, rats of Gps 2, 3, and 4 were exposed to Spirulina platensis (300 mg/kg b.wt per os) and sodium dichromate dihydrate (SDD) via drinking water at concentrat...
