25 26 During human walking, muscle activation strategies are approximately constant across 27 consecutive steps over a short time, but it is unknown whether they are maintained over 28 a longer duration. Prolonged walking may increase tendinous tissue compliance, which 29 can influence neural activation, but the neural responses of individual muscles have not 30 been investigated. This study in...

Precise estimates of muscle architecture are necessary to understand and model muscle mechanics. The primary aim of this study was to estimate continuous changes in fascicle length and pennation angle in human gastrocnemius muscles during ramped plantar flexor contractions at two ankle angles. The secondary aim was to determine whether these changes differ between proximal and distal fascicles....

BACKGROUND The Achilles tendon is composed of fascicles from the soleus and gastrocnemius muscles, which are identifiable as discrete components at anatomical dissection. HYPOTHESIS The pattern of fascicular involvement in Achilles tendinopathy may be characterized at ultrasound, and this characterization is reliable between different observers. STUDY DESIGN Cross-sectional diagnostic study...

The aim of this investigation was to study the effect of non-involved-side exercise on the involved (paretic) leg-muscle of patients with stroke. Each of the ten adults studied attempted to perform, while seated, a predetermined sequence of the following actions : (1) a voluntary knee extension on the involved side; (2) a maximal, isometric knee-flexion on the non-involved side; (3) a maximal, ...

BACKGROUND There is evidence to suggest that contractile properties of muscles in people with multiple sclerosis change as a consequence of demyelination in central nervous system. However, passive properties of muscles in people with multiple sclerosis have not been previously investigated. The purpose of this study was to characterise passive mechanical properties of gastrocnemius in people w...

Background: The purpose of the current study was to investigate the effect of a high- intensity running (12 weeks) with bee pollen on gastrocnemius muscle ABCA1 and apoA1 mRNA expression in male rats. Methods: In the present semi-experimental study, 24 white male Wistar rats aged 8 weeks with an average weight of 90±20 were prepared from the Pasteur Institute of Amol, Iran. The rats were kep...

We report on a 79-year-old woman who underwent salvage of the knee and lower leg using a Whichita Fusion Nail for knee arthrodesis, combined with a medial gastrocnemius muscle flap for a 3% contact burn that resulted in loss of the extensor mechanism. This provided an alternative to above-knee amputation when extensor mechanism reconstruction was not feasible.

This paper investigates the activity of the gastrocnemius (Gas) muscle in healthy subjects during salat (ruku’ position) and specific exercise [Unilateral Plantar Flexion Exercise (UPFE)] using electromyography (EMG). Both lateral and medial Gas muscles were assessed. A group of undergraduates aged between 19 to 25 years voluntarily participated in this study. The myoelectric activity of the mu...

Deformation of the surface of passive medial gastrocnemius muscle (MG) was measured in vivo while performing a hysteresis test. The gastrocnemius muscle of male rats were dissected free and the distal tendon was cut. The lateral head was separated from the medial head. The muscle origins were left intact. 60-70 fluorescent, polystyrene spheres (diameter 0.7 mm) were attached to the surface of t...
