This discussion paper is/has been under review for the journal Geoscientific Model Development (GMD). Please refer to the corresponding final paper in GMD if available. Abstract We introduce a novel algorithm for the efficient detection and tracking of interesting features in spatial-temporal atmospheric data, as well as for the precise localization of the occurring genesis, lysis, merging and ...
ÐWe have modified the original version space strategy in order to learn disjunctive concepts incrementally and without saving past training instances. The algorithm time complexity is also analyzed, and its correctness is proven. Index TermsÐDisjunctive concept, incremental learning, merge, split, version space.
Dust particle growth in a plasma is a strongly disturbing phenomenon for the plasma equilibrium. It can induce many different types of low-frequency instabilities that can be experimentally observed, especially using high-speed imaging. A spectacular case has been observed in a krypton plasma where a huge density of dust particles is grown by material sputtering. The instability consists of wel...
We present a new scheme for the compression of one-way quantum messages, in the setting of coherent entanglement assisted quantum communication. For this, we present a new technical tool that we call the convex split lemma, which is inspired by the classical compression schemes that use rejection sampling procedure. As a consequence, we show new bounds on the quantum communication cost of singl...
In this paper, we establish a novel bottom-up cue named Convex Hull Overlap (CHO), and then propose an effective approach to detect salient regions using the combination of the CHO cue and global contrast cue. Our scheme significantly differs from other earlier work in: 1) The hierarchical segmentation model based on Normalized Graph-Cut fits the splitting and merging processes in human visual ...
We present a new dynamic hashed file organization that solves most problems associated with the directory of the grid file proposed by Nievergelt et al. Our scheme is a multilevel extension of the grid file that supports multiattribute accesses to the file for exact-match, partialmatch, and range queries as well as graceful expansion and shrinkage of the file in a dynamic environment. This new ...
We present a geometric coding method for 3D real and virtual objects transmission and visualization. We describe object surfaces with a set of superellipsoids which are structured with a constructive solid geometry (CSG) tree. An unstructured cloud of 3D points lying on the original object surface is considered as initial data. The tree is obtained using a split and merge algorithm. At each spl...
An automated tracking algorithm for doppler radar storms is presented. Potential storms in Doppler radar images are hypothesized as regions of high water density (high intensity in the radar images) using a merge-and-split region growing algorithm. Potential storms are veriied by a relaxation labelling scheme that attempts to nds the best tracks based on spatio-temporal storm consistency. Tempo...
This paper presents a new secret image sharing method using multiwavelet transform in a general framework with the associated preand post-filtering to achieve an efficient representation of secret images at a low bit rate. It adopts a set partitioning in hierarchical trees (SPIHT) codec to enhance compactness of the data for processing in an image-sharing scheme. Because multiple data channels ...
We provide a new analytical approach to operator splitting for equations of the type ut = Au + B(u) where A is a linear operator and B is quadratic. A particular example is the Korteweg–de Vries (KdV) equation ut−uux +uxxx = 0. We show that the Godunov and Strang splitting methods converge with the expected rates if the initial data are sufficiently regular.
