In this paper we shall study a functional differential equation of second order with mixed type argument. For this problem we give an algorithm based on the step method and the successive approximation method.

We use a monotone iterative method in the presence of lower and upper solutions to discuss the existence and uniqueness of mild solutions for the initial value problem u′(t) + Au(t) = f(t, u(t), Tu(t)), t ∈ J, t 6= tk, ∆u|t=tk = Ik(u(tk)), k = 1, 2, . . . , m, u(0) = x0, where A : D(A) ⊂ E → E is a closed linear operator and −A generates a strongly continuous semigroup T (t)(t ≥ 0) in E. Under ...

We show that various inverse problems in signal recovery can be formulated as the generic problem of minimizing the sum of two convex functions with certain regularity properties. This formulation makes it possible to derive existence, uniqueness, characterization, and stability results in a unified and standardized fashion for a large class of apparently disparate problems. Recent results on m...

We study the convergence of P -regular splitting iterative methods for non-Hermitian positive definite linear systems. Our main result is that P -regular splittings of the form A = M−N , where N = N, are convergent. Natural examples of splittings satisfying the convergence conditions are constructed, and numerical experiments are performed to illustrate the convergence results obtained.

Abstract: We consider three level difference replacements of parabolic equations focusing on the heat equation in two space dimensions. Through a judicious splitting of the approximation, the scheme qualifies as an alternating direction implicit (ADI) method. Using the well known fact of the parabolic-elliptic correspondence, we shall derive a two stage iterative procedure employing a fractiona...

In this paper, we first construct a preconditioned two-parameter generalized Hermitian and skew-Hermitian splitting (PTGHSS) iteration method based on the two-parameter generalized Hermitian and skew-Hermitian splitting (TGHSS) iteration method for non-Hermitian positive definite linear systems. Then a class of PTGHSSbased iteration methods are proposed for solving weakly nonlinear systems base...

In a previous paper, we introduced a coordinate-splitting (CS) form of the equations of motion for multibody systems which together with a modiied nonlinear iteration (CM), is particularly eeective in the solution of certain nonlinear highly oscillatory systems. In this paper, we examine the convergence of the CS and CM iterations and explain the improved convergence of the CM iteration. An exa...

In this paper, we focus on the application of the Peaceman-Rachford splitting method (PRSM) to a convex minimization model with linear constraints and a separable objective function. Compared to the Douglas-Rachford splitting method (DRSM), another splitting method from which the alternating direction method of multipliers originates, PRSM requires more restrictive assumptions to ensure its con...

In this paper, we further investigate the local Hermitian and skew-Hermitian splitting (LHSS) iteration method and the modified LHSS (MLHSS) iteration method for solving generalized nonsymmetric saddle point problems with nonzero (2,2) blocks. When A is non-symmetric positive definite, the convergence conditions are obtained, which generalize some results of Jiang and Cao [M.-Q. Jiang and Y. Ca...

We consider straggler-resilient learning. In many previous works, e.g., in the coded computing literature, straggling is modeled as random delays that are independent and identically distributed between workers. However, practical scenarios, a given worker may straggle over an extended period of time. propose latency model captures this behavior substantiated by traces collected on Microsoft Az...
