Background Diagnosis of myocarditis remains a difficult clinical challenge, since the clinical spectrum of myocarditis is multifaceted. As clinical presentation and ECG-changes tend to be non-specific, cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) has proven to be a valuable diagnostic tool regarding non-invasive diagnosis of myocarditis. However, CMR studies are timeand cost-intensive. Hence, furthe...

Identification of viral myocarditis offers problems; pathologists fail to agree on the definition of the disease and biopsy-proven cases documented in the English literature are still few in number. Though endomyocardial biopsy is becoming a standard procedure at many medical centers, tissue sampling, especially in cases of patchy myocarditis, can result in further diagnostic difficulties. Whil...

A healthy woman with acute onset of pulmonary oedema and severely depressed left ventricular function underwent endomyocardial biopsy under the clinical suspicion of fulminant myocarditis. While awaiting the results of biopsy, the situation deteriorated to Interagency Registry for Mechanically Assisted Circulatory Support (INTERMACS) and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation was implanted. Finall...

Myocarditis can lead to acute heart failure, cardiogenic shock, or sudden death and later, dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) with chronic heart failure. We report the cases of two DCM induced by acute and past myocarditis in the same family and expressed by its two main complications within few weeks: an hemodynamic presentation as a fulminant myocarditis rapidly leading to cardiac tranplantation an...

Herein we present a case of fulminant myocarditis in a woman previously treated for B-cell lymphoma. While the clinical context was suggestive of adriamycin-induced cardiomyopathy, the initial pathology of the Heartmate-2 apical core showed lymphocytic myocarditis. After 8 months of stability, the patient presented with progressive heart failure and recurrent ventricular arrhythmias. An endomyo...

UNLABELLED Viral myocarditis, which is most prevalently caused by coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3), is a serious clinical condition characterized by excessive myocardial inflammation. Recent studies suggest that regulation of protein acetylation levels by inhibiting histone deacetylase (HDAC) activity modulates inflammatory response and shows promise as a therapy for several inflammatory diseases. Howe...

A mother and her two sons with dystrophia myotonica are reported. All three patients had electrocardiographic abnormalities. The mother and one of the sons died. Necropsy revealedfocal myocarditis. It is suggested that myocarditis is a manifestation of the natural history of 'dystrophia myotonica cordis', and that focal myocarditis generally may be a sign of metabolic or degenerative processes ...

Myocarditis is an inflammatory disease of the myocardium. Despite the progress of laboratory data and cardiac imaging, the diagnosis of myocarditis remains a problem in clinical practice. We report the role of non invasive cardiac imaging techniques as echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance in the diagnosis of acute myocarditis.
