This paper presents a 2.14GHz RF front end for Wide-band Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) receiver. The receiver is based on direct conversion architecture and implements a low noise amplifier (LNA) and a quadrature mixer in 0.25μm CMOS process. The receiver achieves a noise figure (NF) of 8.93dB, provides a gain of 17.14dB, has an IIP3 of -15.04dB and dissipate 72.15mW at 2.5V.
We developed a robust large-signal model for InP/InGaAs HBTs. DC, small-signal, noise and power characteristics of InP/InGaAs HBTs are measured over a wide range of frequencies and bias conditions. A minimum noise figure (FMIN) of 3.5dB, and a gain of 16.8dB are achieved at 10-GHz. These measurement results are the basis for robust nonlinear models of InP/InGaAs HBT devices.
A fully-integrated 4.3-7 GHz CMOS low-voltage wideband low-noise amplifier with helical inductors has been demonstrated in this paper. The CMOS LNA, operating at a supply voltage as low as 1 V, achieves a small signal gain of 14 dB and 3-dB bandwidth from 4.3 to 7 GHz. The minimum noise figure is 2.9 dB at 6 GHz. With the benefits of helical inductors, the total effective chip size is only 0.2 mm.
This paper reviews the major contributions proposed in literature for implementing multi-band low noise amplifiers in CMOS technology. Concurrent, switched and switched concurrent low noise amplifiers are investigated. Advantages and drawbacks are also discussed. The article tries to offer good insights on the implementation of multi-band low noise amplifiers. Keywords-CMOS; low noise amplifier...
A two-stage 1.9GHz monolithic low-noise amplifier (LNA) with a measured noise figure of 2.3dB and an associated gain of 15dB was fabricated in a standard silicon bipolar transistor array. It dissipates 5.2mW from a 3V supply including the bias circuitry. Input return loss and isolation are -9dB and -20dB, respectively.

A critical component in phased-array ultrasound receivers is the variable-gain amplifier (VGA), sometimes referred to as a time-gain control (TGC) amplifier. In this article, we examine how VGA output-referred noise and gain can have a pronounced affect on ultrasound pulsed Doppler dynamic range and sensitivity, and how the MAX2037 octal ultrasound VGA has optimized these parameters to yield th...
In this work, the design of a novel low noise amplifier (LNA) based on 1μm gate-length InGaAs/InAlAs/InP pHEMT transistors is discussed. Designed for radio astronomy applications, this amplifier exploits a common drain configuration as an input stage and a common source inductive degeneration topology as an output stage. It exhibits a maximum gain of 30 dB within an input 1dB compression point ...
This paper describes a technique used to measure oscillator noise sidebands at 94GHz. It is extendible to other frequencies in the millimetre-wave band. Oscillator noise sidebands are particularly significant for Continuous Wave (CW) radars, where the sidebands of the transmit/receive leakage can degrade the system noise figure. Measuring oscillator noise is also a particular challenge at highe...
In this paper the recent trends for noise figure are streamlined in concurrence to Ultra Wide Band (UWB) radio transmission spectrum. A comparative study is made between design of single-stage differential low-noise amplifier and inductor-less broadband LNAs in a digital 45 nm CMOS technology. As we move from inductor less impedance to capacitive impedance, the average noise figure decreases in...
