Gall-stone intestinal obstruction (GSO) is an unusual form of mechanical obstruction and a rare complication of cholelithiasis. The treatment options are controversial, usually the management is surgical but associated with significant morbidity and mortality. A spontaneous evacuation of the gall-stone that had induced GSO is even more exceptional, only few reports being published up to date. W...

Surgery is the routine management for elderly individuals with femoral neck fracture, in order to reduce the morbidity and the mortality and to relieve pain. Sixteen elderly patients with displaced femoral neck fractures who were unfit for surgeries were treated conservatively. The mortality in this group was not higher than reported following surgical management. Close nursing care, physiother...

Chylous discharge into cavities or skin is rare and usually arises after operations in the vicinity of the cisterna chyli (secondary chylous reflux). When chylous discharge is primary, however, chylous reflux has usually been present since birth probably as a consequence of obstruction to lymph flow at or above the cistern chyli. We report a patient who had had chylous reflux into lacerated ski...

We performed a prospective, randomised controlled trial of the operative versus non-operative treatment of 42 displaced fractures of the distal femur in elderly patients. Excellent or good results were achieved in 53% of the operated group and in 31% of the non-operated group. There were more complications in the latter, and the time to discharge was considerably longer.

conclusions although some of the orthopedic surgeons are not interested to manage these fractures surgically and most of them treat these cases conservatively (casting, etc.), in most displaced intra-articular calcaneal fractures, surgical treatment is the method of choice. moreover, in non-surgical treatment the prevalence of these complications among the patients is more and as a result, inev...
