The ability to generate physiologically synchronous groups of insects is vital to the performance of investigations designed to test insect responses to intrinsic and extrinsic stimuli. During a given instar, the silverleaf whitefly, Bemisia argentifolii, increase in depth but not in length or width. A staging system to identify physiologically synchronous 4th instar and pharate adult silverlea...
the russian wheat aphid (rwa), diuraphis noxia has been known as a major pest of small grains, particularly wheat, worldwide. this study evaluated the biological responses of rwa to six wheat cultivars including yavarus, pishgam, aadl, omid, darab 2 and sepahan. the experiment was conducted under greenhouse conditions of 25 ± 2 °c, 55 ± 10 % r. h. and a photoperiod of 16:8 (l: d) h. resistance ...
The population biology of three populations of Panstrongylus megistus was compared to determine possible influence on the behaviour and epidemiological importance of this species. The results demonstrated differences in terms of egg eclosion time, nymphal mortality and development rates, and feeding and defaecation rates. These differences appeared to follow a geographical cline, primarily refl...
Distribution of nymphal Ixodes scapularis in Rhode Island was used as a logistical regressor for predicting presence of human babesiosis. Although the incidence of babesiosis is increasing in southern Rhode Island, large areas of the state are free of babesiosis risk.
A new species, Septobasidium annulatum on Rhus potaninii associated with nymphal stage of a scale insect, is described. It was collected from Shaanxi Province, China. A new Chinese record, Septobasidium kameii on Castanea mollissima associated with Diaspidiotus sp., is provided. It was collected from Anhui Province.
We report the identification of a nymphal nostril tick (Amblyomma sp.) from a national park visitor in Gabon and subsequent molecular detection and characterization of tickborne bacteria. Our findings provide evidence of a potentially new Rickettsia sp. circulating in Africa and indicate that tick bites may pose a risk to persons visiting parks in the region.
Greenhouse whitefly, Trialeurodes vaporariorum West. is one of the most important pests of the field crops and ornamental plants in greenhouses. Pest control is based on using chemical insecticides and biological control agents. In this study, the efficiency of the green lacewing, Chrysoperla carnea ( Steph.) with release ratios of 1:1, 1:5, 1:10, 1:15, and 1:20 (predator:prey) using eggs in ch...
