OWL is now very widely used for ontology development and several attempts have been made at incorporating OntoClean analysis into an OWL-based tool. I present here an OWL ontology representing the basic OntoClean distinctions, and a tool and methodology for applying it to OWL ontologies. I briefly touch on the semantic issues implied by using OWL Full syntax to characterize the OntoClean meta-p...
Although OWL, an emerged standard of expressing ontologies in the Semantic Web, is a very expressive ontology language, the OWL datatyping formalism is far not expressive enough to generally represent user-defined datatypes (such as XML Schema derived datatypes), not to mention user-defined datatype predicates (such as > for non-negative integers) in Semantic Web ontologies and applications. In...
We show how to reduce ontology entailment for the OWL DL and OWL Lite ontology languages to knowledge base satisfiability in (respectively) the SHOIN (D) and SHIF(D) description logics.
We show how to reduce ontology entailment for the OWL DL and OWL Lite ontology languages to knowledge base satisfiability in (respectively) the and description logics. This is done by first establishing a correspondence between OWL ontologies and description logic knowledge bases and then by showing how knowledge base entailment can be reduced to knowledge base satisfiability.
In this paper we discuss the feasibility of using OWL 2 DL reasoners to diagnose the integration of large-scale ontologies via mappings. To this end, we have extended our ontology matching system LOGMAP with complete OWL 2 DL reasoning and diagnosis capabilities. We have evaluated the new system, which we call LOGMAP-FULL, with the largest matching problems of the Ontology Alignment Evaluation ...
In this sketchy paper we introduce a logical reconstruction of the RDF family of languages and the OWL-DL family of languages. We prove that our logical framework is equivalent to the normative W3C definitions of RDF/RDFS and OWL-DL/Lite. The main aim is to have a unified model theoretic semantics for both worlds. As a consequence we get various complexity results and a model theoretic semantic...

In this paper, we define a framework, namely CLIPS-OWL, for enabling the CLIPS production rule engine to represent the extensional results of DL reasoning on OWL ontologies in the form of Object-Oriented (OO) models. The purpose of this transformation is to allow CLIPS to use these OO models as static query models that are able to answer extensional ontology queries directly by the RETE reasoni...
The Ontology for Biomedical Investigations (OBI), written in OWL DL, is being developed by a large consortium seeking to provide a crossdomain, shared framework for representing investigations in the biological and biomedical sciences. In this paper we report our experiences and describe our development process as it pertains to OWL, which includes a number of elements that might inform tool de...
Controlled languages (CLs) are subsets of natural language with minimal ambiguity (lexical, structural, or semantic) tailored to fullfil data management tasks. Recently [5, 11], they have been proposed as a means of providing natural language interfaces to databases (DBs) and to ontology-based data access systems (OBDASs) centered around the W3C standard ontology language OWL1 (Web Ontology Lan...
