The synthetic scope and utility of Pd-catalyzed aerobic oxidation reactions has advanced significantly over the past decade, and these reactions have potential to address important green-chemistry challenges in the pharmaceutical industry. This potential has been unrealized, however, because safety concerns and process constraints hinder large-scale applications of this chemistry. These limitat...
Microbial redox reactions of inorganic sulfur compounds are one of the important reactions responsible for the recycling of this element to maintain the environmental sulfur balance. These reactions are carried out by phylogenetically diverse set of microorganisms. The sulfur oxidizing gene cluster (sox) of thermo-neutrophilic bacterium Hydrogenobacter thermophilus consists of soxYZAXB. The bac...
Herein we report on the reactions of the stable LSiCl (1) and LGeCl (2) [L = PhC(NtBu)(2)] with L(1)Ge, [L(1) = CH{(C[double bond, length as m-dash]CH(2))(CMe)(2,6-iPr(2)C(6)H(3)N)(2)}] (3) to yield 1-sila-5-germylene (4) and a 1,5-bis(germylene) (5). The reactions proceed through the 1,4 nucleophilic addition of the M-Cl (M = Si or Ge) to 3 without any modification of the oxidation state altho...

A novel crosslink-forming nucleobase, 2-amino-6-(1-ethylthiovinyl)purine (ATVP), which is triggered by the oxidation of sulfide to sulfoxide, has been developed. The oxidation of ATVP within the duplex proceeded with H2O2 and FeCl2. We have successfully developed the crosslinking reactions activated by oxidation.
Oxidation and hydration of sulfides in aggregate materials can yield to expansive reactions that affect the durability of concrete. This process is, in principle, independent from the potential alkali-aggregate reactivity, and the oxidation of the sulfide is the rate-limiting reaction. A model is presented to evaluate the kinetic evolution of expansion due to sulfide oxidation, and subsequent s...
Multi-generational oxidation of volatile organic compound (VOC) oxidation products can significantly alter the mass, chemical composition and properties of secondary organic aerosol (SOA) compared to calculations that consider only the first few generations of oxidation reactions. However, the most commonly used state-of-thescience schemes in 3-D regional or global models that account for multi...
Recently, wild-type and mutant forms of bacterial cytochrome P450 BM3 (CYP102A1) have been found to metabolize various drugs through reactions similar to those catalyzed by human cytochromes P450 (P450s). Therefore, it has been suggested that CYP102A1 may be used to produce large quantities of the metabolites of human P450-catalyzed reactions. In this report, we show that the oxidation of 7-eth...
