We report a very low birthweight infant with congenital complete atrioventricular block (CCAVB) who underwent delayed implantation of a permanent pacemaker without temporary pacing. The female infant was born at 30 weeks gestation and weighed 1422 g. After birth, the infant showed respiratory failure due to pleural effusion and respiratory distress syndrome at birth. The heart rate ranged betwe...
BACKGROUND Conduction disturbances are relatively common after transcatheter aortic valve implantation. Previous data demonstrated an adverse impact of persistent left bundle-branch block (LBBB) after surgical aortic valve replacement. It is unclear whether new-onset LBBB may also impact the prognosis of patients after transcatheter aortic valve implantation. METHODS AND RESULTS Among 1060 pa...

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES Single-lead VDD pacing provides the physiological benefits of atrioventricular synchrony with the convenience of a single-lead system. However, concern remains about the method's safety and effectiveness. METHOD In total, 700 patients with single-lead VDD pacemakers were evaluated retrospectively. The following parameters were recorded: age, sex, etiology, the symp...
Total atrioventricular (AV) block is inconvenient and serious complication of open heart surgery. Permanent total AV block requires the implantation of permanent pacemaker in order to allow normal hemodynamics and patient's survival. In infancy additional challenge is the surgical approach, the selection of electrodes and PM, as well as place of implantation. We are publishing case report of su...
Two cases of takotsubo cardiomyopathy occurred after pacemaker implantation, both in elderly women who received a dual-chamber pacemaker for complete atrioventricular block. They had persistent left ventricular dysfunction even during their convalescence.
Usually an electrocardiogram after right ventricular (RV) pacing should yield left bundle branch block (LBBB) pattern. However, the presence of right bundle branch block (RBBB) pattern after pacemaker implantation should alert the physician to a malposition of lead. We report a case of 18-year-old female who underwent dual chamber pacemaker implantation and had RBBB pattern post implantation. D...
BACKGROUND The expanding clinical indications of cardiac rhythm management have led to an increased use of pacemaker implantation which is associated with increased incidence of pacemaker infections. Staphylococcus aureus and epidermidis account for the vast majority of pacemaker infections. Pacemaker infection due to Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis) is very rare, only few cases hav...
Our patient had recurrent syncope due to ventricular tachycardia (VT) after one year of VVI Pacemaker implantation. He had pacemaker pocket infection for which new pacemaker was implanted on opposite side but old lead was not explanted completely. Flouroscopy showed redundant loop of old lead in right ventricular inflow which was snared out subsequently. He never had syncope or VT after that.
General anaesthesia is usually recommended for the most painful part of long-term transvenous pacemaker implantation, viz., the pulling subcutaneously of the end of the electrode from the neck incision to the site of pacemaker implantaition. The ability to perform this step, and therefore the whole procedure, under local anaesthesia is an advantage. We descrilbe a simple, inexpensive device whi...
