OBJECTIVE The aims of this study were to examine if serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels are lower in men with type 2 diabetes compared with those in healthy men and to investigate what factors may be associated with serum PSA levels in men with type 2 diabetes. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS We compared the serum PSA levels in 224 diabetic men with those in 1,293 healthy men and investi...
we report our experience with 124 patients were referred 70 our urology clinic in sina hospital for urinary retention. serum psa analyzed by using a monoclonal assay. all patients underwent digital rectal examination. the patients devided in 3 groups: group 1 (87 men) with a serum psa level less than 4 ng/ml, group 2 (26 men) with a serum psa level 4-10 ng/ml and group 3 (11 men) with a serum p...
The aim of this study was to investigate the significance of serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) value adjusted for total tumor volume (PSA/tumor volume) and serum PSA value adjusted for non-cancerous prostate tissue volume (NCPV) (PSA/NCPV) as a predictor of pathological findings and clinical outcome after radical prostatectomy. Clinical and pathological data of 407 patients (median age: 66....
We report a case of a patient who presented with an extremely high serum prostate specific antigen (PSA) level and underwent radical prostatectomy for presumed prostate cancer. Surprisingly, the whole mount prostatectomy specimen showed only small volume, organ-confined prostate adenocarcinoma and a large, benign intraprostatic cyst, which was thought to be responsible for the PSA elevation.
Granulomatous prostatitis is a rare benign inflammatory condition of prostate. It is mistaken for prostatic carcinoma. Clinically it presents as hard nodule on digital rectal examination with raised serum prostate specific antigen (PSA) levels and reduced free PSA levels. We report a rare case of non-specific granulomatous prostatitis clinically diagnosed as carcinoma prostate.
Objective: Serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels are very important in the diagnosis of prostate cancer. Besides prostate cancer, PSA levels can also be increased by cystoscopy, prostate biopsy, prostatitis, and manipulation. There are also studies reporting that ejaculation affects serum PSA levels. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of ejaculation frequency on serum PSA...
Prostate-specific antigen (PSA), the tumor marker currently used for prostate cancer (PCa), is not specific enough to distinguish between PCa and benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH). Glycan processing is normally perturbed in tumors, therefore we investigated whether changes in glycosylation of PSA could be useful diagnostic indicators. Previously we determined that the glycosylation of PSA secre...
Prostate-specific antigen (PSA), considered only an established marker for the detection of prostate cancer, has been identified as a member (hK3) of the human kallikrein family of serine proteases and now, it is known that PSA is not specific to prostate, semen, and gender. Increased PSA serum levels have been reported also in cardiovascular patients and both elevated as well as diminished PSA...
Introduction. Prostate cancer (PC) leads the world structure of male mortality. Understanding prognosis for PC patients is vitally important and requires diagnostic enhancements such as developing biomarker panels. The studyaimed to estimate sensitivity, specificity, prognostic significance level immunoglobulin G (IgG) proteolysis products in blood serum depending on Gleason score detect how le...
background: breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. prostate‑specifc antigen (psa) is a marker of prostate gland malignancy, which has been considered in cases with breast cancer in recent years. the goal of this study was to determine total and free psa levels in cases with malignant and benign breast lesions. methods: in this case–control study, ninety women with histological pr...
