We report the numerical analysis of our experimental results for electron-wave propagation from a quantum point contact to a quantum wire. Our numerical method solves the boundary problem of a lattice model, and determines wave functions at an arbitrary site. This method also includes a recursive Careen s-function method. Our study found oscillations in the conductance, and magnetic suppression...
Coulomb drag between two quantum wires is exponentially sensitive to the mismatch of their electronic densities. The application of a magnetic field can compensate this mismatch for electrons of opposite spin directions in different wires. The resulting enhanced momentum transfer leads to the conversion of the charge current in the active wire to the spin current in the passive wire.
The local density of states in finite quantum wires is calculated as a function of discrete energies and position along the wire. By using a combination of numerical density matrix renormalization group calculations and analytical bosonization techniques, it is possible to obtain a good understanding of the local spectral weights along the wire in terms of the underlying many-body excitations.
A problem of interacting charge carriers confined in quasi-one-dimensional ~1D! semiconductor nanostructures has been studied. We have derived an analytical 1D formula for the effective interaction potential between the confined charge carriers. We have applied both the 1D model with the effective potential and the full three-dimensional ~3D! approach to an electron pair confined in a single an...
We investigate transmission through a short wire with electron-electron interactions which is coupled to noninteracting metallic leads by coupling matrix elements. We identify two temperature regimes (a) T Kondo < T ≤ T wire = ¯ hv F /k B d (d is the length of the interacting wire) and (b) T < T Kondo ≪ T wire. In the first regime the effective (renormalized) electron-electron interaction is sm...
We investigate tunneling through a short wire with electron-electron interactions which is coupled to noninteracting leads. We identify two temperature regimes (a) TKondo < T ≤ Twire = h̄vF /kBd (d is the length of the interacting wire) and (b) T < TKondo ≪ Twire. In the first regime the effective (renormalized) electron-electron interaction is smaller than the tunneling matrix element. In this ...
We investigate the photoresistance of a magnetically confined quantum wire in which microwave-coupled edge channels interfere at two pinning sites in the fashion of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer. The conductance is strongly enhanced by microwave power at B = 0 and develops a complex series of oscillations when the magnetic confinement increases. Both results are quantitatively explained by the ...
We have measured the low-temperature conductance of a one-dimensional island embedded in a single mode quantum wire. The quantum wire is fabricated using the cleaved edge overgrowth technique and the tunneling is through a single state of the island. Our results show that while the resonance line shape fits the derivative of the Fermi function the intrinsic linewidth decreases in a power law fa...
