The laparoscopic diagnosis and repair of an unusual diaphragmatic hernia are described. Extensive radiological assessment failed to demonstrate the injury, which was diagnosed by laparoscopy 5 weeks after the initial presentation. The diaphragmatic tear was adjacent to the costal margin and was repaired using a novel percutaneous technique. The place of laparoscopy in blunt abdominal trauma is ...
An infant infected with HIV presented with fever, tachypnoea, hypoxia, and radiological evidence of bilateral pneumonitis. Fluorescent antibody technique identified Pneumocystis carinii within 24 hours from secretions obtained by nasopharyngeal aspiration. This rapid, non-invasive method should be the first line investigation of suspected P carinii pneumonia in immunocompromised patients.
The radiological report of gall bladder contraction 60 minutes after fatty meal, was compared with the computed volume and contraction of gall bladder using Siffert's technique. Of 46 oral cholecystograms, 34 were reported to be normal and 12 as poor contraction. On computation only 14 were found to be normal and 32 showed poor contraction. The difference was statistically significant.
Direct radiological measurements of the mineral content of femoral bone were performed in 13 patients on maintenance dialysis. They were found to be sufficiently sensitive to be used for monitoring, and it is suggested that the technique gives more information than do calcium-balance studies.
PURPOSE To present the 24-month radiological follow-up data for patients with pararenal aortic pathologies treated with chimney and periscope grafts during endovascular repair. METHODS Between January 2008 and December 2011, 124 high-risk patients with complex pararenal aortic pathologies were treated using the chimney technique at 2 European vascular and cardiovascular centers with advanced ...

OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to evaluate the functional and radiological outcomes of patients with comminuted proximal humeral fractures treated with closed reduction and percutaneous screw fixation (CRPF). MATERIAL AND METHODS The authors retrospectively reviewed 38 cases of displaced pro...
INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES The evaluation of pleural effusion (PE) includes various techniques, including pleural biopsy (PB). Our aim was to study the diagnostic yield of Tru-Cut needle PB (TCPB) and to define clinical/radiological situations in which TCPB might be indicated as an initial procedure. METHODOLOGY Retrospective study of TCPB in a hospital centre (2010-2012). Cases of pleural l...
