Herbivory has long been recognized as a significant driver of plant population dynamics, yet its effects along environmental gradients are unclear. Understanding how weather modulates plant-insect interactions can be particularly important for predicting the consequences of exotic insect invasions, and an explicit consideration of weather may help explain why the impact can vary greatly across ...

I am responding to Dr. Weir's query for more details concerning how we handled our raw data in our article " Role of the Human Kidney in Glucose Counter-regulation " (1). Due to high rates of renal blood flow, small arterio-venous differences, and analytical variation, physiologically impossible results such as negative or extremely high fractional extractions (FXs) are not uncommonly observed....

I report a framework for assessing whether one mitochondrial genome is significantly more rearranged than another. This relative rate of gene rearrangement test (RGR) behaves according to expectation, distinguishing between highly rearranged and mildly rearranged insect mitochondrial genomes. It may be more broadly applied to assess the relative rate of nuclear gene rearrangement.

The effect of different CO2 concentrations and their subsequent light changes on the photosynthetic characteristics Porphyra yezoensis are not well understood. relationship between availability to physiological traits thalli could help understand response adaptation mechanisms P. extreme weather changes. In this study, at was determined. Under low intensity, high concentration promoted relative...

Environmental heterogeneity mostly dominated by differing light regimes affects the expression of phenotypic plasticity, which is important for plant growth and survival, especially in the forest understory. The knowledge about these responses to this heterogeneity is a key factor for forest restoration initiatives. In this study, we determine several phenotypic responses to contrasting light c...

in order to study physiological characteristics of rainfed bread wheat genotypes, an experiment was conducted with 20 genotypes in a randomized complete block design with 4 replications under rainfed and supplementary irrigation conditions. this experiment was carried out at the dryland agricultural research institute (dari) in maragheh during 2007-2008. to determine growth indices, sampling wa...

Subject trees included in growth analyses often vary in their initial size, possibly obscuring the effects of growth factors. We compare methods for incorporating size effects into growth models. For four different tree species, red maple (Acer rubrum L.), sugar maple (Acer saccharum Marsh.), American beech (Fagus grandifolia Ehrh.), and red oak (Quercus rubra L.), we compared models of radial ...

[1] The seismic structure of the crust and upper mantle of the southwestern United States is examined using receiver functions calculated from teleseismic arrivals recorded in the Colorado Plateau–Rio Grande Rift–Great Plains Seismic Transect (LA RISTRA) experiment. We apply receiver function estimation and filtering methods developed by Wilson and Aster (2005) to produce receiver functions wit...

[1] We have analyzed and compared distance dependences of electric and magnetic fields due to a lightning strike to a tall object and due to the same lightning strike to flat ground. In both cases, lightning was represented by a transmission line energized by a lumped voltage source connected at the channel attachment point. The resultant total charge transfer to ground was the same regardless ...
