four sugar beet genotypes with different reactions to root rot pathogens were evaluated for resistance to important root rot agents including pythium aphanidermatum, phytophthora drechsleri, rhizoctonia solani ag-2-2 and r. solani ag-4. inoculums for pythium and phytophthora were 3-5 day actively growing colony of the pathogens on cma medium, while for rhizoctonia isolates were nine infected co...

One root disease complex often associated with strawberry plants grown in nonfumigated soil is referred to as black root rot. While not currently a widespread problem in properly fumigated commercial production fields, with the impending phase out of the use of methyl bromide and alteration of current fumigation practices this disease complex may once again become a problem. In other strawberry...

Charcoal rot of sorghum caused by the fungus Macrophomina phaseolina is a root & stalk rot disease of great destructive potential in most sorghum glowing regions. Improved, high yielding cultivars under great management tends to be very susceptible to the disease. M.phaseolina is a common soil borne, non aggressive and plurevourous pathogen that attacks plants. Whose vigor has been reduced by u...

Incidence and severity of root-rot caused by the fungus Macrophomina phaseoli was increased in screenhouse-grown kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) seedlings simultaneously infected by the nematode Meloidogyne javanica. In seedlings inoculated at 5, 10 and 15 days of age, root rot lesions increased 70.3, 44.1 and 21.8%, and nematode penetration increased 49.0, 36.7, and 12.3% when both fungus and n...

Severe violet root rot occurred in a field of membranous milk vetch in Bonghwa, Korea, in October 2010. Two fungal isolates from the diseased plants were identified as Helicobasidium mompa based on their morphological, cultural, and molecular characteristics. This is the first report that H. mompa causes violet root rot on membranous milk vetch in Korea.

Metallic silver nanoparticles have been reduced from silver nitrate by employing the extracellular enzymatic machinery of edible White button Mushroom (Agaricus bisporus). The physical properties of these particles, size and shapes have been determined using techniques like TEM, FTIR and XRD and were reported in our earlier report. But, what stands of paramount importance in the presen...

Fusarium semitectum was found to be the major seed colonizing fungus in the commercial acid delinted cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) seed lots. There was no correlation, however, between its incidence and seedling emergence and disease symptoms on the emerged seedlings in autoclaved sand. Inoculation technique simulating internally seedborne nature of the fungus showed that the observed non-correla...

Since the 1990s, brown root rot caused by Phellinus noxius (Corner) Cunningham has become a major tree disease in Taiwan. This fungal pathogen can infect more than 200 hardwood and softwood tree species, causing gradual to fast decline of the trees. For effective control, we must determine how the pathogen is disseminated and how the new infection center of brown root rot is established. We per...
