This paper addresses the problem of building a Boolean dataflow network (sequential circuit) recognizing the language described by a regular expression. The main result is that both the construction time and the size of the resulting network are linear with respect to the size of the regular expression.

A simple multiscale approach to the diffusion-driven adsorption from a solution to a solid surface is presented. The model combines two important features of the adsorption process: (i) The kinetics of the chemical reaction between adsorbing molecules and the surface and (ii) geometrical constraints on the surface made by molecules which are already adsorbed. The process (i) is modeled in a dif...

We introduce a new construction for the balancing of non-binary sequences that make use of Gray codes for prefix coding. Our construction provides full encoding and decoding of sequences, including the prefix. This construction is based on a generalization of Knuth’s parallel balancing approach, which can handle very long information sequences. However, the overall sequence—composed of the info...

In this paper we define the notion of causal chains. Causal chains are a particular kind of sequential patterns that reflect causality relations according to background knowledge. We also present an algorithm for mining causal chains from a collection of action traces. We run this algorithm on a realworld domain and observe that causal chains can be computed efficiently by quickly identifying i...

Classification rule generators that have the potential to include negated features in their antecedents are generally acknowledged to generate rules that have greater discriminating power than rules without negation. This can be achieved by including the negation of all features as part of the input. However, this is only viable if the number of features is relatively small. There are many appl...
