Questions of solution of three-dimensional diffraction problems are considered. Each problem is formulated as a single weakly-singular integral equation of the 1st kind for a single unknown function. Discretization of these equations is realized by means of special smoothing method of integral operators kernels. Numerical solutions of systems of linear algebraic equations, approximating integra...

In this paper we apply a quadrature method based on the tensor product trapezoidal rule to the solution of a singular integral equation over the two-dimensional torus. We prove that this method is stable if and only if a certain numerical symbol does not vanish. For a special kernel function, we present a plot of numerically computed symbol values and, for symmetric kernels (Mikhlin-Giraud kern...

Traditional boundary element methods use panel-based discretization and exhibit low order convergence. In this paper, a new approach is proposed to discretize a singular integral equation. Global, numerically orthogonal bases are used to represent a solution, and mapping functions are used to represent the geometry. This method is capable of achieving spectral convergence, similar to the Nyströ...

A direct algorithm for evaluating hypersingular integrals arising in a three-dimensional Galerkin boundary integral analysis is presented. The singular integrals are defined as limits to the boundary, and by integrating two of the four dimensions analytically, the coincident integral is shown to be divergent. However, the divergent terms can be explicitly calculated and shown to cancel with cor...

p(t, s) := s tμ , (1.2) where μ > 0, K(t, s) is a smooth function and g is a given function, can arise, e.g., in heat conduction problems with mixed boundary conditions ([2], [10]). The case when K(t, s) = 1 has been considered in several papers. The following lemma summarizes the analytical results for (1.1) in the case K(t, s) = 1. Lemma 1.1. (a) [12] Let μ > 1 in (1.2). If the function g bel...

Volterra integral equations arise in many problems pertaining to mathematical physics like heat conduction problems. Several numerical methods for approximating the solution of Volterra integral equations are known [1-10]. This paper is focused on the solution of Volterra integral equations of the second kind with weakly singular kernel via Haar function by taking advantage of the nice properti...

It is known that the solutions of characteristic singular integral equations (SIEs) are expressed in terms of singular integrals of Cauchy type with weight functions w (x) = (1 + x)ν (1-x)μ, where ν = ± frac(1, 2), μ = ± frac(1, 2). New quadrature formulas (QFs) are presented to approximate the singular integrals (SIs) of Cauchy type for all solutions of characteristic SIE on the interval [-1, ...

In this work we consider a nonlinear Volterra integral equation with weakly singular kernel. An asymptotic error expansion for the explicit Euler’s method is obtained and this allows the use of certain extrapolation procedures. The performance of the extrapolation method is illustrated by several numerical examples.
