In this paper, the applications of mesh-free SPH (Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics) methodology to the simulation and analysis of 3-D hard machining process is presented. A Langrangian SPH based model is carried out using the Ls-Dyna software. Classical Lagrangian, Eulerian and ALE methods such as finite element methods (FEM) cannot resolve the large distortions very well. Conventional finite el...
Biological soft tissues experience damage and failure as a result of injury, disease, or simply age; examples include torn ligaments and arterial dissections. Given the complexity of tissue geometry and material behavior, computational models are often essential for studying both damage and failure. Yet, because of the need to account for discontinuous phenomena such as crazing, tearing, and ru...
The correspondence problem is an important problem when the subjects have two different kinematical structures imitating each other. In this new approach, the imitator and the imitate have totally different dynamics systems, the first one is the fluidic system, the second one is the human hand gestures. The motion of the fluidic system is composed of the combination of fluid particles which are...
We summarize the ideas that led to the Adaptive Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (ASPH) algorithm, with anisotropic smoothing and shock-tracking. We then identify a serious new problem for SPH simulations with shocks and radiative cooling — false cooling — and discuss a possible solution based on the shock-tracking ability of ASPH.
The hydrodynamics of collisions and mergers of main-sequence stars is discussed in the light of recent 3-D calculations using the smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method. Theoretical models for the formation of blue stragglers are reviewed in the context of recent comparisons between the observed properties of blue stragglers in dense globular clusters and the predictions of those models.
The onset of runaway stellar collisions in young star clusters is more likely to initiate with an encounter between a binary and a third star than between two single stars. Using the initial conditions of such three-star encounters from direct N -body simulations, we model the resulting interaction by means of Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH). Our code implements new equations of motion th...

In this paper, attempt is made to solve a few problems using the Polynomial Point Collocation Method (PPCM), the Radial Point Collocation Method (RPCM), Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH), and the Finite Point Method (FPM). A few observations on the accuracy of these methods are recorded. All the simulations in this paper are three dimensional linear elastostatic simulations, without account...
Lagrangian smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) is a well-established approach to model fluids in astrophysical problems, thanks to its geometric flexibility and ability to automatically adjust the spatial resolution to the clumping of matter. However, a number of recent studies have emphasized inaccuracies of SPH in the treatment of fluid instabilities. The origin of these numerical problems ...
