Spatial transformation of MR brain images is a standard tool used in automated anatomical parcellation and other quantitative and qualitative methods to assess brain tissue volume, composition, and distribution. Despite widespread use, the quantitative effects of spatial transformation on regional brain volume estimates have been little studied. We report on the effects of transformation on reg...
The spatial resolution of exposure data has a substantial impact on the accuracy and reliability seismic risk estimates. While several studies have investigated influence geographical detail urban in earthquake loss models, there is also need to understand its implications at regional scale. This study investigates effects European model resulting estimates by simulating dozens site models (630...
This study aims to investigate the impact of the spatial size of the study domain on the performance of the triangle method using progressively smaller domains and Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) observations in the Heihe River basin located in the arid region of northwestern China. Data from 10 clear-sky days during the growing season from April to September 2009 were use...
Operational ground-based measurements of snow water equivalent (SWE) do not adequately explain spatial variability in mountainous terrain. To address this problem, we combine satellite-based retrievals of fractional snow cover for the period 20 0 0 to 2011 with spatially distributed energy balance calculations to reconstruct SWE values throughout each melt season in the Sierra Nevada of Califor...
This paper describes a computational model for the prediction of perceived spatial quality for reproduced sound at arbitrary locations in the listening area. The model is specifically designed to evaluate distortions in the spatial domain such as changes in source location, width and envelopment. Maps of perceived spatial quality across the listening area are presented from our initial results.
How are space and time represented in the human mind? Here we evaluate two theoretical proposals, one suggesting a symmetric relationship between space and time (ATOM theory) and the other an asymmetric relationship (metaphor theory). In Experiment 1, Dutch-speakers saw 7-letter nouns that named concrete objects of various spatial lengths (tr. pencil, bench, footpath) and estimated how much tim...
