New reagents containing high concentrations of urea are developed for micro-titration of calcium and magnesium, with ethylenediamine tetra-acetic acid (E.D.T.A.) as titrant and Corinth Ca (Plasmocorinth B) as indicator. Magnesium is determined as the difference between calcium plus magnesium and calcium. Quantitative aspects are studied, and accurate titration of untreated serum or urine is bel...

Titrimetric and spectrophotometric methods are described for the determination of oxcarbazepine (OXC) in bulk drug and in tablets. The methods use N-bromosuccinimide (NBS) and bromopyrogallol red (BPR) as reagents. In titrimetry (method A), an acidified solution of OXC is titrated directly with NBS using methyl orange as indicator. Spectrophotometry (method B) involves the addition of known exc...

The colours of birds are diverse but limited relative to the colours they can perceive. This mismatch may be partially caused by the properties of their colour-production mechanisms. Aside from pigments, several classes of highly ordered nanostructures (thin films, amorphous three-dimensional arrays) can produce a range of colours. However, the variability of any single nanostructural class has...

Spectrophotometrlc and voltaanetric methods were developed for the analysis of potassium ferrate(VI) in dilute solutions, where the standard chromite method is inapplicable. A direct proportionality prevails between the ferrate concentration and the absorbance on the one hand, And the ferrate concentration and the ferrate reduction current on the other. However, voltaasetry has greater precisio...

Three new, simple, sensitive and selective spectrofluorimetric and spectrophotometric methods were developed for the determination of the γ-amino-n-butyric acid derivative, pregabalin. Pregabalin as a primary amine reacts with fluorescamine to yield a fluorescent product (Method I), with 2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene (Method II) and 2,3,5,6-tetrachloro-1,4-benzoquinone (Method III) in aqueous alkali...

The use of a Neubauer chamber is a broadly employed method when cell suspensions need to be quantified. However, this technique may take a long time and needs trained personnel. Spectrophotometry has proved to be a rapid, simple and accurate method to estimate the concentration of spore suspensions of isolates of the genus Fusarium. In this work we present a linear formula to relate absorbance ...

A method is described for measuring doxepin-related material excreted in urine. Unchanged doxepin and certain doxepin metabolites are oxidized to doxepin ketone with KMnO4. The doxepin ketone is extracted with n-hexane and quantitated by ultraviolet spectrophotometry at the absorption maximum, 266 nm. This method is fast, reproducible, and measures a greater percentage of doxepin-related materi...

This method for determination of Rb+ in human plasma and erythrocytes by graphite-furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometry has a sensitivity of 29 nmol/L for plasma, 12 nmol/L for erythrocytes. The detection limit is 24 nmol/L for plasma, 4.8 nmol/L for erythrocytes. This assay is approximately 30-fold more sensitive than previously reported techniques involving atomic absorption spectrophot...

A method for the determination of the copper content of biological materials by flame spectrophotometry is described. The effects of interference by ions such as sodium and phosphate were eliminated by isolating copper as the dithizonate in CCl(4). Results obtained for the urinary excretion of copper by a patient with Wilson's disease before and after treatment with penicillamine are reported.

We describe a method for the 7-min determination of theophylline in less than 100 muL of serum. The procedure requires no centrifugation or solvent evaporation after extraction. Butylation is done on the gas-chromatographic column by injecting the serum extract followed by a butylating mixture which contains 1-iodobutane as the alkylating agent. The method is precise, accurate, and free of inte...
