A mean-field multispin interaction spin glass model is analyzed in the presence of a ferromagnetic coupling. The static and dynamical phase diagrams contain four phases (paramagnet, spin glass, ordinary ferromagnet, and glassy ferromagnet) and exhibit reentrant behavior. The glassy ferromagnet phase has anomalous dynamical properties. The results are consistent with a nonequilibrium thermodynam...

In an eeort to understand the glass transition, the kinetics of a spin model with frustration but no quenched randomness has been analyzed. The phenomenology of the spin model is remarkably similar to that of structural glasses. Analysis of the model suggests that defects play a major role in dictating the the dynamics as the glass transition is approached.

Magnetic and transport measurements indicate FeAl2 to be an ordered intermetallic spin glass, with canonical behavior including a susceptibility cusp at T f535 K and frequency-dependent susceptibility below T f . The field-cooled and zero-field-cooled magnetization diverge below T f , with hysteresis characteristic of a spin glass. A resistivity minimum just above T f is explained in terms of c...

T thermodynamics: we find a specific heat linear in T and a local spectral density of spin excitations, χ′′ loc(ω) ∼ ω for a spin glass state which is marginally stable to fluctuations in the replicon modes. For small S, the spin-glass order is fragile, and a spin-liquid state with χ′′ loc ∼ tanh(ω/2T) dominates the properties over a significant range of T and ω. We argue that the latter state ...

Using a combination of static and time dependent magnetic susceptibility measurements we have examined the nonconventional spin glass phase of the 2-dimensional kagomé antiferromagnet (H3O)Fe3(SO4)2(OH)6. In contrast with 2-dimensional site-disordered spin glasses, ac susceptibility results show critical behaviour at finite temperatures. This transition agrees well with a predicted anisotropy-d...

Two versions of the M-p-spin glass model have been studied with the Migdal-Kadanoff renormalization group approximation. The model with p = 3 and M = 3 has at mean-field level the ideal glass transition at the Kauzmann temperature and at lower temperatures still the Gardner transition to a state like that of an Ising spin glass in a field. The model with p = 3 and M = 2 has only the Gardner tra...

Spin glasses are a longstanding model for the sluggish dynamics that appear at the glass transition. However, spin glasses differ from structural glasses in a crucial feature: they enjoy a time reversal symmetry. This symmetry can be broken by applying an external magnetic field, but embarrassingly little is known about the critical behavior of a spin glass in a field. In this context, the spac...
