This paper describes a technique to superconductively splice multifilament wires. To date the technique has achieved joints capable of carrying a superconducting current of 200 A at 10 K in self field. Joints details, as well as testing methods and results are presented here.

Human-mouse comparative genomics is an informative tool to assess sequence functionality as inferred from its conservation level. We used this approach to examine dependency among different positions of the 5' splice site. We compiled a data set of 50,493 homologous human-mouse internal exons and analyzed the frequency of changes among different positions of homologous human-mouse 5' splice-sit...

The regulation of alternative splicing involves interactions between RNA-binding proteins and pre-mRNA positions close to the splice sites. T-cell intracellular antigen 1 (TIA1) and TIA1-like 1 (TIAL1) locally enhance exon inclusion by recruiting U1 snRNP to 5' splice sites. However, effects of TIA proteins on splicing of distal exons have not yet been explored. We used UV-crosslinking and immu...

Although the topic of the study seems to be a novel subject and its design looks excellent, there are some points which seem to be missed or neglected by the respected authors of the paper entitled: “Study of the Expression of Survivin & Its Splice Variants ΔEx3, 2b and 3b as Diagnostic Molecular Markers in Breast Cancer”. Through this review, it was attempted to review and criticize some of th...

Proper splicing is often crucial for gene functioning and its disruption may be strongly deleterious. Nevertheless, even the essential for splicing canonical dinucleotides of the splice sites are often polymorphic. Here, we use data from The 1000 Genomes Project to study single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the canonical dinucleotides. Splice sites carrying SNPs are enriched in weakly expr...

Hepatitis B virus-infected patients frequently have viral particles with DNA derived from differently spliced RNA. Which factors influence the synthesis of these splice variants is unclear. We analysed the type of splice variants produced from different genotypes and determined whether they are secreted as efficiently as wild-type virus. We demonstrate production of a single splice variant from...

Spliceosome formation is initiated by the recognition of the 50 splice site through formation of an RNA duplex between the 50 splice site and U1 snRNA. We have previously shown that RNA duplex formation between U1 snRNA and the 50 splice site can protect pre-mRNAs from degradation prior to splicing. This initial RNA duplex must be disrupted to expose the 50 splice site sequence for base pairing...
