Coupling between voltage-gated Ca(2+) influx and synaptic vesicle exocytosis is essential for rapid evoked neurotransmission. Acuna et al. show that the knockout of RIM-BPs, which are key structural components of this coupling, decreases the reliability of evoked neurotransmitter release.
We analyze mode coupling discontinuous transition in the limit of vanishing discontinuity, approaching the so called "A(3)" point. We fabricated and characterized InGaAsP photonic crystal nanocavities. By carefully tailoring the structural parameters, both an efficient coupling and a suitable Q-factor can be achieved.
